    Macbook Pro Trackpad Issues

Hi,I have a Macbook Pro which runs on Mac OSX 10.5.8. Recently I am facing very unusual problems with the trackpad. Whenever the laptop is put to sleep and then made to wake up again then the trackpad moves and rollsover normally but clicks don't get register. This continues for sometime and then the clicks get registered. Also after this every application takes more than 2 clicks to open. The specification of my Macbook are 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2gb of RAM. If anybody has any views on this please share.

I suppose that there are some background activities going on which are making the detection of the trackpad slow. Check if there any background activities running which are taking a lot of CPU usage. Run the activity monitor to see all the processes which are running on the computer. Close the processes which are taking lot of CPU usage and see if the problem continues. Also try to eliminate all the unwanted processes and put the MAC to sleep. After waking it up check if the clicks register or not.

If the mouse is a bluetooth mouse or a wireless mouse then check the batteries. In wireless and bluetooth mouse the clicks dont get registered if the voltage of the batteries drops below certain level. Remove the batteries and check the voltage across the batteries. If it well below the mentioned value, then changing the batteries will solve the problem. Also check if any other bluetooth device is trying to access the laptop while the mouse is accessing. If you are using a Wireless mouse then check the if the receiver has a clear line of sight of the mouse and the mouse is well inside the recommended range.

This is a software issue. Some application on your MAC is taking up all the CPU and hence it is not able to register any clicks. You can find out the application which is consuming lot of processing and then kill it using Activity monitor. To go to activity manager, Press the Apple Menu Key and select System Utilities. In system utilities, Select and Open Activity Monitor. Now open the tab of ongoing processes. Resize the Window to see which application is taking all the CPU usage and then eliminate it. You can also remove the problem creating application by logging in to single user mode.

This problem with the trackpad is faced by users of certain series of Macbook Pro. There is some manufacturing problem in some series of Macbook Pro. Contact the Apple Customer Care and provide them with your model and series number. If your Model and series number match with the defective lot then you will get the entire Macbook replaced for free but if it is not there in the same lot then you will have to pay for trackpad being replaced.

As a last resort you can try doing a PRAM reset. Many problems related to Macbook are solved by doing a PRAM reset or a PSU reset. To perform a PRAM reset follow these steps.
    1) Locate the following Keys Apple, Option, R and P
2)Now Hold and press the following Keys while pressing the Power button.
3)Keep pressing this keys till you hear 3 start-up chimes.
4)Once the 3rd start up chime is heard, release the keys and let the system boot. If the problem you were facing was due to PRAM, then it will be solved.
If it still continues then try doing a PSU reset. To do PSU reset follow these steps. Remove the battery and the power source. Now Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds release the power button and then replace the battery. Now boot the system and check if the problem persist. Hopefully it gets solved by doing PRAM and PSU reset.
