Problems with Acer Aspire 5050

I have an Acer Aspire 5050 which is about 6 months old. It used to work fine but from few days it is giving some unusual problem with it. Whenever i press the power button, the laptop boots up but the keyboard, touchpad and all the buttons on the laptop wont work. External keyboard and mouse work fine. Please suggest some solution to this problem.

Try booting the windows in safe mode and see if the keyboard and all buttons work fine. Booting the windows in safe mode will help you to diagnose the problem. In safe mode the windows will only boot the basic necessary applications which are required for the windows to work. Now go to device manager and check if the drivers for keyboard and touchpad are working properly or not. Troubleshoot if there is a caution sign against them. Update the driver if required.

I think the windows installation has been corrupted. Acer laptops comes with the Acer recovery tool installed on them. Use this utility to restore the windows on the system and see if the devices work properly. If you don't know how to use the restore utility then go to the Acer official site and look at the procedure. If the laptop is under warranty cover then take it to the nearest service center and get the system checked.

Re: Problems with Acer Aspire 5050

Have you installed any third party application recently on your laptop? If yes then uninstall them. During installation of some application the system files get replaced and if these files are required by the windows to work properly then it creates problem. Uninstall the recently installed application by booting the pc in safe mode. Booting in self mode helps to disable any 3rd party application which may be creating problem. Be careful while uninstalling the software as it may delete some files permanently and this could lead to complete system failure.

Re: Problems with Acer Aspire 5050

Your laptop is infected by a virus which is disabling the keyboard and touchpad when the system boots completely. Scan the laptop with an updated antivirus and spyware. If you dont have an updated antivirus, then you can go for an online scan which is available free on the websites of Mcaffee and Kaspersky.Take appropriate action on the infected files depending on the type of file. If the virus has infected any system file then don't try to delete or repair it, instead quarantine the file. It is preferable to scan the computer while it is safe mode. Once the virus has been cleaned, restart the laptop in normal mode and check if the keyboard works or not.

Re: Problems with Acer Aspire 5050

You need to install a fresh copy of windows on your laptop as the current installation has been corrupted. Insert a windows bootable disk and start the laptop. Change the boot order by entering into bios setup. Make CDROM as the first boot device and hard drive as second. Save and exit the setup and restart the laptop. Now press any key to boot from CD. Follow the onscreen steps which will guide you through the installation procedure. Before starting the setup dont forget to take back-up of your data as you will need to format the drive on which Windows is installed. After windows installation install the drivers for all the devices. Hopefully your keyboard and touch pad will work fine after that.
