Data loss if Compaq Presario laptop sleeps?

I have just purchased a new Compaq Presario laptop last week. I have never used a laptop before this. If I am not using my laptop for a long period of time my laptop enters a Sleep mode. After I wake my laptop it asks for password authentication. Now my query is that is there any way that I can change the settings to not enter the password every time I wake up my laptop from Sleep mode and will that result in any data loss? Also I want to know what is Hibernation mode?

The sleep mode is very much a similar process as pausing a movie. You can wake up your computer and continue to work from the same point as you were doing earlier. In many laptops the default settings do inquire for a password when returning back from sleep. You can avoid the password verification when your laptop returns back from sleep in the following manner:

1. Press the Windows key and select the Control Panel option from the Start menu.
2. Go to System and Security.
3. Select the Power Options.
4. Select Require a password on wakeup on the Select a power plan page.
5. Select the Change settings that are currently unavailable.
6. Now select Don't require a password in the Define power buttons and turn on password protection page.
7. To save the settings click on Save.

Just like Sleep mode the Hibernation is also a power-saving mode for your computer. This mode is more precisely useful for laptops. In hibernation all your work and files which were operational are moved to the hard drive. Once this is done the computer is completely powered off. This power saving mode uses the least power then the Sleep and the Hybrid sleep power saving mode. it is advisable to use this mode only when your laptop is going to be used for a longer duration without charging in between. If you are using your laptop in your house then this hibernation mode is not a necessity for you. As you can easily charge it as and when required.

Even I am using a laptop that would go to sleep and wake up to ask password for verification. This was quite irritating as my laptop is only used by me. And hence it does not need to ask for a verification each time I wake it up from sleep. I then did research to change the settings to not ask for password verification using the process below:

Click on the Start menu on the bottom left corner of the desktop.
Locate and click on the Control Panel.
Open the System and Security and then open Power Options.
Now to change the settings for the power plan you desire select the power plan and click Change plan settings.
Go to Change advanced power settings.
Select the On battery or Plugged in and click the arrow and select No.

This helped me to suppress the password verification process.
