Backslash key is showing hash key

Hey,

I am having the problem with the Keyboard of my laptop. I am using the ACI Icon S laptop which is gifted to me by my father on birthday. Due to some virus reason i formatted the Laptop and reinstalled the software which are necessary to run the system. But after that when i press the key from keyboard it works fine except one Backslash key. When i pressed the same it types hash (#) . Now i don't understand what to do, so i am here to take your help.

I don't know how but it could be possible that your Keyboards layout might be got change due to some reason. It can happens due to the Virus that affected your device. So i will advice you to change the Layout of the Keyboard. To make the change do the following:

• On the Language bar, click the Input language button, and then select an input language.
• Click the Keyboard layout button, and then select a keyboard layout.

Hi there,

Run the xev command to xev to get the keycode of the keyword that your are looking for i.e. Backslash and Hash. It will display the complete key code of the keyword of the keyboard. Consider the keycode is not same as the original one <>. Make a file ~/.xmodmaprc. Add 51 keycode for the backslash and Keycode 50 for bar. Now again run the xmodmap ~/.xmodmaprc. Check for the keyword.

The solution of your problem can not be solved by changing the keyboard layout because it was working properly before but the problem arise after it got infected by the virus. I will suggest you to perform the the format again. It will set the default setting for the Keyboard's key code. So do the same to make a change. I hope this will help you.
