Ipod not recognized in itunes, may be due to some third party applications (such as security software) can sometimes cause your computer does not recognize your iPod. See if changing the settings of such software, or temporarily disabling it fix the problem.
To resolve this problem, as per Microsoft kb 925196, delete the registry values UpperFilters and LowerFilters. These values may cause access problems. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit and click OK.
Locate the registry value UpperFilters and click it. This value is in the following registry subkey:
2. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.Code:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\(4D36E980-E325 11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318)
Locate the registry value LowerFilters and click it. This value is in the following registry subkey:
3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.Code:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318)
4. Exit the Registry Editor.
5. Restart the computer.
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft can not guarantee the solution of these problems. Modify the registry at your own risk.
Note: If you lose functionality in a specific program, such as CD recording software after you remove both registry values, you may have to reinstall that software.
It happens, if you have manually formatted the hard drive of your iPod, or if for some reason the format of the disc was damaged or altered, iTunes does not recognize the iPod. To resolve this problem by restoring your iPod with iTunes (version 7 or higher) or iPod updater.
Note that the restore process erases everything on your iPod, including songs and files are stored.
