xp mce usb periphials fail to load i think i changed the settings on the pc so that whatever is needed to load a periphial via a usb connection will not load.the only hardware that is recognized via my usb ports are devices previously installed successfully. the pc no longer will recognize/install external hard drives it won't recognize or install my 60 gb maxtor or 2 different 3.5 inch floppy drives, one or which is memorex the other smartdisk. when i plug them in the pc shuts down, restarts and then shuts down and reloads over and over untill i unplug the usb cord. i'm running Operating System System Model Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600) Install Language: English (United States) System Locale: English (United States) Gateway T6532 100 System Serial Number: GCD62A0013139 Enclosure Type: Desktop Processor a Main Circuit Board b 2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 128 kilobyte primary memory cache 512 kilobyte secondary memory cache 64-bit ready Not hyper-threaded Board: MS-7207G 100 Serial Number: 6226270437 Bus Clock: 200 megahertz BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 080012 02/07/2006 Drives Memory Modules c,d 200.03 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity 138.82 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552D [CD-ROM drive] Generic USB CF Reader USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 2 Generic USB MS Reader USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 4 Generic USB SD Reader USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 1 Generic USB SM Reader USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 3 WDC WD2000BB-22GUC0 [Hard drive] (200.05 GB) -- drive 0, s/n WD-WCALL1867165, rev 08.02D08, SMART Status: Healthy 896 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory Slot 'DIMM0' has 512 MB Slot 'DIMM1' has 512 MB Slot 'DIMM2' is Empty Slot 'DIMM3' is Empty Local Drive Volumes c: (NTFS on drive 0) 195.72 GB 137.53 GB free d: (FAT32 on drive 0) 4.31 GB 1.30 GB free Network Drives None detected thanks charlotte |

| Re: xp mce usb periphials fail to load
Some times devices are associated with only one port as mention in the last hypertext link listed below. It may be USB auto powering off the reader or not powering it enough. I don't know your mobo but see if there is another USB header that you can plug the reader into. Then try unchecking the "Allow the computer" under Power Management tab for the relevant hub. Whats happening is unique serial numbers are not included by a manufacturer. And placing it into another port can confuse Windows Xp. |

I would suggest you to install drivers for your external hard drive and at the same time try to check out on another computer if it's working fine then there is some issue with your computer and at the same time check out below links for more solution Mini USB 2.0 HUB Not Detected in Windows Xp ?. Transcend JF V30 4Gb usb not detected USB drive not detected |

| Re: xp mce usb periphials fail to load
i found the "allow the computer" and deselected it. that option is only available for the usb 4 port hub i added to the computer, not the usb port factory equipped. now when i use the 4 port hub windows does not shut down, but it also does not recognize the floppy at all. the factory equipped hub detects it but windows shuts down before i can "read" from it. |
