Check Device Manager first (right-click on My Computer, choose Manage, and then select Device Manager). If no devices appear in the Windows Device Manager, then Remove all devices with conflicts and then click on refresh it should once again attempt to install the device.
First connect your Sandisk Sansa M240 to computer. Then right-click My Computer, and then click Manage > go to Device Manager > expand Portable Devices > Right-click the name of the device( Sandisk Sansa M240) that is not working properly, and then click Uninstall. Disconnect your device from your computer, make sure it is still turned on, and then connect it to your computer again. Windows will detect your device and automatically re-install it.
- Try other USB ports, cable or computers.
- Try other USB ports on your computer. A USB port behind a PC usually has the most power output.
- Try a different cable if there's one available, to rule out a cable malfunction.
- Try another computer.
