If you planning for SLR camera then stick with Canon or Nikon my suggestion is Canon 1000d this is best slr with worth price but is it completely dedicated to image so you can not go for video shooting if that is your need spend some more cash and get mark 5d there is also variants like 2 and 3 . for non slr go with nikon or sony

Yes Sony is good but costly it is also more user friendly for armature photographers check this camera which i found best ant all these having something special so they are best
