Re: Connect Laptop to Home Stereo

Here is how I have connected my laptop computer to the stereo receiver :

    • Turnoff your laptop and the power on your stereo receiver.
    • Plug the single end of the Y adapter into the sound card speaker jack of your laptop. Locate an available jack (i.e. Aux, Tape2, etc.) on the back of your stereo receiver where you can plug in the other ends of the Y cable.
Note: Do not use the Phono jack. It will cause static or interference.
    • Match the red plug of the Y cable to the red jack on your stereo receiver and connect.
Match the black plug of the Y cable to the white jack on your stereo receiver and connect.
Depending on the Y cable you select, this plug may be black, white or gray.

Your laptop is now successfully connected to your home stereo receiver.
Now, turn ON the power on both your laptop and home stereo. On your stereo receiver, select the mode where your laptop is connected (Aux, Tape2, etc.).
Launch Rhapsody, sign in, select music and play. The sound will now be coming from your stereo speakers.

To play your laptop music collection in your home stereo system, you can try these options as well:

    • If your home stereo can play native MP3 files, create a MP3-CD. If not, cut a redbook audio CD and play it on the home stereo.

    • You can also purchase a wireless MP3 player like the Netgear Wireless Music or Creative Labs Wireless Music.

Re: Connect Laptop to Home Stereo

Purchase a "Y" adapter that goes from the stereo mini-jack to separate left and right jacks. With the "Y" adapter in hand, it's easy to connect a laptop to home stereo system.

    follow these steps:

    1. Connect "Y" adapter to the audio output jack on your laptop

    2. Connect one end of the stereo audio cable to the left and right jacks on the "Y" adapter.

    3. Connect the other end of the stereo audio cable to the left and right auxiliary input jacks on your sound system or receiver.
