Laptop won't detect sata

I am having HP laptop with ASUS motherboard on it early i was using Windows Vista but currently when i receive this laptop from my friend it's having Windows XP install over it and i am not comfortable with Windows XP for that i have reinstall the Operating system each an everything was fine expect my 1Tb Sata hard drive is not being detected in Windows Vista. Does anyone facing such kind of issue.

As per my knowledge if you are trying to install Windows XP on your laptop and if you are having ASUS motherboard then you need to first load the it' RAID driver by pressing F6 Key during installation and at the same time make sure your RAID is being disabled in BIOS. The SATA ports are active at boot so you just plug the drive in and away you go.

As per my knowledge only Intel chipset will only detect SATA drives without sata drivers being loaded. Normally Via or SIS chipset also has SATA connection but for that you need to load sata drivers before Windows setup would detect the drive and install windows on it.
