Convert 35mm negatives to digital photos

Hi,

I have many 35mm slides lying around which i would like to convert to digital photos Is it possible to have old 35mm film negatives converted into a positive digital format?. if yes then how ?. I want excellent image quality, but do not need professional-level results. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
