i don't know with the usb port but i know one way to record off your favorite programs.it need a Direct TV DVR,you can output it to a DV recorder at 480i. Blue Ray drives for computers are expensive and the disks as well.
i Guess the USB ports are for future use form DirecTV.
Which are connecting your DVR to your homes computer network for transferring the shows/movies over the network to a networked PC. This can be only possible with the DirecTV Tivo that has sort of modified software, right now you can't do it with your usb port....
DirecTV has got the ability to go to a web page and give instructions to your DVR to record a program. DirecTV has a mobile web page that makes this easy on web enabled devices like the iPhone. It should also work on the iPod touch. Using Safari . it will put you on a page called "DVR Scheduler." you can log in and search for the show by name or by channel.. Any eligible DVRs will show up and you can ask for the recording to be made.. Shortly after, you'll get a confirmation that DirecTV has your request.. DirecTV then sends your request from the website to your DVR and all should be well.
