Sony Ericsson has launched two new green mobile phones, which it claims reduces CO2 emissions by 15 percent compared to other Sony Ericsson handsets. The Naite and the C901 cybershot phone. The C901 GreenHeart measures 105x45x133mm and weighs 107g. Only available in white, the handset also features a 2.2in 240x320 display, a 5Mp camera with 16x zoom and xenon flash, integrated GPS, media player and Bluetooth connectivity. As per Sony, its portfolio of GreenHeart pioneer products is expected to expand in the future with new additions and innovations.
Those who doubted that the GreenHeart concept would ever come to fruition need not wonder any longer as Sony Ericsson is just about ready to bring their new eco-friendly phones to the market.GreenHeart comes to the market with an electronic, in-phone manual that replaces the paper version, saving this way more than 90% paper while also allowing for a more compact packaging.
The phone's casing is made of more than 50% recycled plastics and sports an optimized display light sensor to drain less power from the battery. The phone will come with the MH300 GreenHeart headset, made up of 100% recycled plastics, and with a WalkMate application.
Like we always emphasize on Inhabitat, it certainly helps that the new GreenHeart models are desirable and pleasing to the eye. After all, there really is little point in spending energy and resources making an eco-friendly phone if no one wants to own it.The handset industry is closely followed by environmental organizations around the world due to its large scale. More than 1 billion phones are sold globally each year, which requires the use of sales boxes, add-ons and tons of rare raw materials.
