Olympus launches Micro Four Thirds camera

Olympus in the discussion of its annual results announced on June 15 its first Micro Four Thirds camera will introduce. It will be a variant of the mock-up already at the show at Photokina 2008.

The new camera, which, like Panasonic Lumix G1 without mirror house set but whose image is significantly larger than a standard compact, a slightly different look than the orange with the silver was shown mock-up. It is still not clear on which issues the final model has changed. The first Micro Four Thirds camera in the first week of July in Japan are available as stated Olympus Tsuyoshi Kikukawa chief executive during the presentation to the annual figures.

The report shows that the idea behind the new camera is a tribute to the compact and acclaimed Pen-film line from Olympus in the sixties. Martijn Peeters, marketing manager at Olympus Netherlands, confirmed that a June 16 press event will be held for a new product, but could not comment further.

Olympus was the first time in four years in the red. Thus, the net loss it booked 882 million euros, compared with a net profit of 446 million euros a year earlier. Olympus attributes the loss to the global recession and a strong yen. Sales fell 13 percent to 7.54 billion euros. For the next year, which ends late March 2010, Olympus forecast a net profit of 308 million euros.

Re: Olympus launches Micro Four Thirds camera

Convenient to take and still limited benefits of a normal SLR.

I wonder if these cameras by the control, for example concerts come. I think was always the argument: a removable lens, then it may not.

Incidentally I hope that in addition to the xD cards, support other formats such as good old CF or SD.

Re: Olympus launches Micro Four Thirds camera

Olympus DSLRs support since the very first CF cards. In addition they have a 2nd card slot for xD cards. Recent Olympus compact cameras use SD cards as far as I know, so it seems unlikely that the m4 / 3 camera only a xD card will have. It will also be marketing a technical disaster, because the xD format all long dead and buried.
