Change Location of My Documents In Windows Mobile

Do any one have idea to change location of my documents to the storage card in windows mobile ? I've actually searched for this and can't find anything more than the WM5 reg key which doesnt' work for me.

Please help soon, because its taking lot of the incredibly inadequate amount of built-in storage space of the Mobile device.

this can be done but its much complicated. So go through this steps with concentration:-
    • Reset your Windows Mobile device

    • Synchronize your mobile device with your PC

    • Navigate to the registry subkey:

      HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory

    • Change the “Folder” key to “My Documents”

    • Rename your original “My Documents” folder to “My Docs”.

    • Power off and reset your mobile device.

    • Sync your mobile device again.

    • You should see in File Explorer that your My Documents folder has an SD card icon next to it.

    • Copy your files back into your My Documents.

Change the location of My Documents

Documents are opened in and saved to the device's internal storage by default. You can change this location to, for example, your Storage Card:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\FileSyncPath = "\Storage Card\My Documents" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)

To return to the original location:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\FileSyncPath = "\My Documents" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)

Re: Change Location of My Documents In Windows Mobile

    Hi,

I just bought a Lilliput PC745, the guys did a poor job of configuring the memory allocation . Its running windows CE 5.0.

For some reason the desktop along with some other folders such as the start up folder are stored in ram. So when the device is switched off, I loose everything.

I have a flash memory location called "Flash Disk", is it at all possible to do the same trick with the Desktop, Programs, StartUp. These 3 folders are all currently located in \Windows\.

There are a couple of folders in the root directory id like to move as well.

Please help, I don't want to mess this up!

    Thanks

    Marco

Re: Change Location of My Documents In Windows Mobile

    Hi,

I have figured out to do this, and got it to work partly.

I had to change items in the flowing folders

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Explorer\Shell Folders\

    and

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\

But something is still generating two folders in My Device, "\My Documents", "\Program Files" and "\Temp".

Does anyone have any suggestions how these are generated and how I can permanently remover them

    Thanks

    Marco

Change Location of My Documents In Windows Mobile

    You need to do following steps;
    1) Search the registry and replaced all references to "my storage" with "my documents"
    2) Copy all subdirectories from the original my documents to my storage
    3) Renamed my documents to old documents.
    4) Soft reset.

    All the best.

    Hi,

Thanks Quentin, but what if I wanted to move MyDocuments to a folder with in the flashdisk? Do i still replace "Flash Disk" with "My documents"

I moved all the folders to "\Flash Disk\Documents and settings\" just to keep the flash a bit more organised.

I think that you can try to set up and safe files to a My Documents folder on a storage card or in a Flash ROM area, but ActiveSync won't see those folders and won't sync them. See if www.mydocsunlimited.com will help. They have an app called Mighty Sync that will sync to storage cards.
