How do I know if my laptop is equipped of an IR and how to operate?

If your laptop includes an infrared port, you should see in device manager in the port. (right click on desktop, then properties, and device manager...)

As I think you want to relay a device that has an IR port, you can also walk around to see if your PC detects it. Otherwise, there are small USB-IR available.

We already know that this is a laptop. This is not what we asked. Give the model of your laptop: HP, Compac, Sony, etc. followed by the model no. This will go on the net what it is made. Bizzare indeed that it is not indicated on the documentation.
