    Camcorder without firewire

    Hello,

At work we have a Sony camcorder that has 4 or 5 years I think ... I wanted to connect it to my pro macboock but I did not firewire cable. (and as this is never the same connectors (sizes) .... strong sustainable development ....) I tried to connect via USB ... But here nothing! it does not mount on the desktop nothing there .... How to do "recognize" the MAC??

    Thank you

so it seems to me to have seen several topics on the subject ... which the conclusion was invariably: "inconsistency between Sony camcorders and the Mac!

It depends on the models, but the case of the more common with Sony on the Mac seems to be =
    - Firewire (i.Link in Sony speak) = OK.
    - USB connection = OK only for playback from the Memory Stick. The streaming video is restricted to USB PC world (with special software to download).

While this is not very complicated ... Unless there is a lot of formats, that I'm in administration and it is a little infuriating to have to take the camera under his arm to take him to the "city" to try to find the right cable ...
But actually, once past the disappointment, nothing too serious and irreparable ... So thank you to you for these details that I could at least know what to do!

    Re: Camcorder without firewire

You do not need to take your camcorder. There is no Firewire 150 port! There are 3!

The side of your camcorder is always mini FW400 4-pin, and on your MacBookPro, you have a FW 400 and a 6-pin FW800 9-pin (unless you have the latest MBP glass or there is the FW800).

You need is a FW400 cable 4 pin to 6 pin cable FW400/800 or 4-pin to 9 pin

I even show you all this picture:

    FireWire 400 (1394a) 4-Pin to 6-Pin

    Cable ..................... Camera connector

    Cable ..................... Mac connector

    FireWire 800 (1394b) / FireWire 400 (1394a) 9-Pin to 4-Pin

    Cable ..................... Camera connector

    Cable ..................... Mac connector
