MSI have announced full specifications for their Wind U123 netbook and X-Slim X320 & X340 ultraportable notebooks. the 10.2-inch U123 has the Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz processor, WWAN and a TV-tuner; meanwhile the X-Slim X320 has an Intel Atom Z530 1.6GHz processor and optional 3G/WiMAX. The X-Slim X340 uses Intel’s SU3500 CULV processor.

The MSI Wind U123 replaces the long line of Wind and structured as some of its predecessors with a WSVGA screen (1024 x 600 pixels) 10.2-inch backlit LED. It would be the first to associate the recent Intel Atom N280 processor clocked at 1.66 GHz with Intel chipset 945GSE former, then we tend to associate more readily with GN40. It would not surprise endless 1GB of RAM and 160 GB hard drive, as well as the usual USB connectivity, VGA and Ethernet. He was finally out of the competition by incorporating a 3G modem and a TV receiver.

A 9-cell battery is available as an option. The MSI-X Slim x320 and X340, plastic clones of Apple's MacBook Air, both revolve around the same chassis and a slab of 13.4-inch 16:9 displays a definition of 1366 x 768 pixels. They are both 1.78 cm thick, weighing only 1.27 kilograms and are available in white, gray and black.

The MSI-X Slim X340, which we already knew that a mysterious ship Penryn processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, is the first to host one of the new low power processors from Intel, the Core 2 Duo SU3500 emitting a TDP of only 5.5 watts.

It is associated with an Intel chipset GS45 which integrates a graphics chip Intel GMA4500MHD ensuring decoding high definition videos. It also has an HDMI output. There are also up to 4 GB DDR2 RAM 800 MHz in addition to a hard drive 320 GB Connectics turn is provided by Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi N and Bluetooth, and more three ports USB, a VGA output and a memory card reader. The difference between the two is that the X340 is based on the Intel GS45+ICH9M-SFF chipset, featuring integrated GMA4500MHD graphics and support for 4GB of memory, while the X320 boasts the integrated Intel GMA500 graphics and up to 2GB of DDR2 memory. Both systems are equipped with 2.5-inch hard drives, 802.11 b/g/n and Gigabit Ethernet LAN. The X320 is the only model to provide an option for 3G/WiMAX connectivity.

I like the design of the x320 and X340, perhaps because it recalls a recent laptop

Mostly because it's not new, and the only advantage is the processor (not debating the OS choice, that's personal for you). Obviously there are differences in build quality, but I would prefer to wait til the x320/340 is released before comparing those.

I think MSI is blurring the lines between netbook and notebook, which is a good thing - more choices.
