In a press release, Smart has announced it will be offering netbooks with built-in SmartBro wireless internet as a bundled package. It’s not the regular USB dongle but netbooks with 3G SIM card slots.Smart Bro wireless broadband modems now come embedded on units of the Asus Eee PC 904 GO, one of Asus’ newer models that have built-in 3G capability.

GO with Smart BRO bundled together. The wireless broadband service takes advantage of the netbook’s built-in SIM slot, which allows mobile access to Smart’s HSPA network. It’s more or less like Globe Visibility and Sun Broadband Wireless, but without the need to keep a modem plugged into your laptop’s USB port.

The Eee PC 904 GO with Smart Broadband connectivity is being offered for Php 1,799 which is actually comprised of the Php799 monthly service fee and P1,000 subscription fee for the Eee PC 904 GO. In addition, the promo is tied up with a 24-month service contract which users need to apply for. In essence users are actually paying around php 45K for the Eee PC 904 GO and the data usage.

The lifetime cost of the contract is P20,176 ($420) over two years which is not too bad considering a rather decent sized keyboard on the 8.9-inch model. The Asus Eee PC 904 GO is powered by a Celeron M processor rather than an Intel Atom and comes with 1GB RAM. It also has a 80GB hard-disk drive and 1.3MP webcam.

Not sure if there are changes on the specs compare to old 904. If there’s none, Asus Eee PC 904 Go will be powered by a Celeron M processor like its Eee 900 sibling rather than an Atom. It has 80GB disk estate which is pretty huge enough for its purpose. But this also means that it’s gonna be a bit more hungry on battery supply.

What a gyp! The promo is purposefully misleading — you immediately think you’re paying a 1000 peso one-off fee and a monthly 799, but the 1k is monthly for 24 months.

Initial cash-out for the 24-month subscription is P1,000 for the laptop plus P799 for the first monthly service fee, for a total of P1,799. The same amount goes for the monthly fee for the package.
