Samsung -- the company for which no phone is too thin or too small -- used ITU Telecom World 2006 in Hong Kong as an opportunity to announce a couple new multimedia powerhouses that are both thin and small. So Samsung unveiled only 9.4mm thick or should we say 9.4mm thin F300 Mobile. The F300 is a music-oriented handset that looks like an ordinary MP3 player on one side and a diminutive phone on the other. It has one of the best unique designs so far on a mobile phone that does not come under the word ‘Concept’.
This handset features a 2 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot for more storage plus built in 12MB storage. Another cool feature what we know everyone like is that the handset has A2DP (Bluetooth Audio) for wireless music headsets. The handset has a music side & a phone side which both come with dedicated keys for ease of use. The music side of the handset comes with a large 2.1 Inch colour screen & below the screen there is a navigation pad which lights up when in use.
The screen is perfect for display the users music play lists & provides 262k colours with 176 x 220 pixel screen resolution. The phone side of the Samsung F300 comes with a smaller screen, a standard numeric keypad & a 2 megapixel camera feature. The smaller screen provides up to 262k colours on a TFT display with a screen resolution of 176 x 65 pixels. The handset weighs 78 grams & is only 9.4 mm in depth which provides a thin & lightweight handset.
The phone's design is dominated by the rather large keypad and as a result, the phone's screen is tiny, and we mean tiny, it's just three lines of text and struggles to even give you space to write text messages let alone display a number.
Above the keypad is what seems to be an even larger d-pad with the usual array of shortcut buttons normally found on standard Samsung phones including call, hang-up, a shortcut to the built-in digital camera, a cancel button and two further menu buttons. Above the tiny screen is a 2 megapixel digital camera, which as you can imagine is almost impossible to see the results on that miniscule screen.
Looking at it from this angle in the office, I would be rather embarrassed to tell you the truth to put it on my desk, and it certainly wouldn't get a show on the table in the pub.
F300 has rocking 100MB of internal storage with microSD expansion up to 2GB, a 220 x 176 display, 2 megapixel cam, FM radio, Bluetooth with A2DP, and a triband GSM radio with EDGE all crammed into a 9.4 millimeter shell. The F500 is more sufficiently equipped for the heavy lifting that comes with video duty, directly supporting DivX on its 2.4-inch QVGA display. Like its F300 little sibling, it features dual faces -- one for phone, one for fun -- but packs a more aggressive 400MB of memory (in addition to whatever you manage to add via microSD). It also adds UMTS and a nifty swivel that allows the phone to be placed upright on a surface for video use, though all the added goodies add a full 1.3 millimeters over the F300's thickness.
The music side of the Samsung F300 Ultra Music provides the user with a quality music player with dedicated multimedia screen & dedicated music controls. The Samsung F300 is a music lovers dream which high quality sound provided from the integrated speakers. The user can use the music controls & 2.1 Inch colour screen to view their play list & the music settings. The F300 Ultra Music comes with a FM radio feature which allows the user to listen to their favourite radio station when they are on the move
