YouTube is a phenomenon, the perfect playground and medium for the vidiot generation, and I personally am extremely grateful to the designers, those who contribute to the site as well as the guys who maintain it. But what most people, including myself are even more grateful for are the portable versions for mobile handsets. Until now very few manufacturers have bothered to incorporate a preloaded YouTube client onto their handsets. Appleās iPhone and HTC are two of the few that have managed to deliver.
However, the limitation has been expanded and YouTube has now come up with the perfect solution by designing and releasing native applications for the Symbian S60 platform as well as another version for Windows Mobile
devices.
This means application start-up, searching and video load times should now be quicker, and improved buffering will allow videos to play even in weak areas.
The application will now also automatically detect your device and network capabilities, and select the highest available stream quality for you.
Finally, streaming over WiFi has also been improved, and supports a wider range of networks.
The application will alert you as more improvements become available, so keep an eye out for updates.
You can download the YouTube app now by heading to YouTube on you mobile browser, or check out the YouTube blog for more information.
