YSP-3050 Digital Sound Projector From Yamaha

Yamaha, the innovator in home theater and digital audio and video reproduction, today unveiled the YSP-3050, the latest in its award-winning line of Digital Sound Projectors which focus audio signals into precisely controlled and directed ?beams? that provide true multi-channel surround sound from a single component.YSP-3050 is the latest home theater system that employs Digital Sound Projection Technology. This sound bar speaker system sits between Yamaha's top-end YSP-4000 and lower-end YSP-3000. It's a good solution for those who want an all-in-one simulated surround sound system. What's cool about this unit (and the YSP-4000 as well) is the analog-to-digital conversion that lets you plug in non-HD sources and watch them using the YSP-3050's HDMI output. Again, as with the YSP-4000, this means there's only one HDMI cable connecting this unit to your HDTV. The speaker has two HDMI inputs, as well as one component and one composite video. When picking a sound bar, it's a good idea to determine how many jacks you are going to need, both now and down the road, before you buy. If you have four HD sources, this unit simply won't work for you, as the unit has only two HDMI inputs and one component input.

A Digital Sound projector utilizes a series of small speakers that can be assigned to various channels and project sound to different points in a room, all from a single cabinet. A digital sound projector houses all needed amplifiers, audio processors, and speakerss. The surround effect is actually very good, considering everything comes out of one box. The only additional item required might be an external subwoofer. The YPS-3050 fits neatly underneath a flat-panel television and gives consumers a space-efficient option to installing multiple speakers throughout a room for immersive audio for watching movies, television and sports programming.

The new YSP-3050 features 21 beam drivers, and two woofers, 23 corresponding digital amplifiers, three Cinema DSP programs (movie, music and sports), analog to HDMI video upconversion, high definition video upscaling to 1080i/720p and a 1080p (24Hz and 60Hz) compatible HDMI interface with two inputs and one output to facilitate pure digital connections with the latest home theater components. The YSP-3050 is XM Satellite Radio ready with XM HD surround sound powered by Neural Surround. The YSP-3050 also offers iPod compatibility via the new optional YDS-11 dock. The Digital Sound Projector employs multiple small speakers, each with it's own digital amplifier, and our unique projection technology to control the orientation of the sound. By focusing the sound into ?beams? and controlling the speaker delay times, the listener perceives the sounds to be coming from additional speakers placed throughout the room, when in fact there is only the Yamaha Digital Sound Projector.

The YSP-3050 creates a wide soundstage designed to fill the whole room with convincing surround sound regardless of where listeners are seated. Sound settings include 5-Beam, 3-Beam, 3-Beam + Stereo, 2- channel Stereo, My Beam, 5-Channel Stereo and My Surround modes. My Surround mode delivers surround sound to even the most difficult installation environments where walls may not be present or are covered with unsuitable materials. My Beam mode focuses the sound at a specific listening position, so the listener can hear all program audio clearly, including dialog, without disturbing others in the room.

The YSP-3050 is currently available for a suggested retail price of $1,399.95.

Yamaha YSP-3050 Digital Sound Projector Features:-

Audio Inputs and Outputs:

The Yamaha YSP-3050 Digital Sound Projector has four assignable digital audio inputs ( Two Coaxial and two Optical), Analog stereo audio connections for a CD player, and a Subwoofer preamplifier output. The YSP-3050 can also access audio via the two HDMI inputs. However, it cannot access Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD bitstream audio signals, but this unit can access standard Dolby Digital, DTS, and PCM via the HDMI inputs.

Audio Features - Intellibeam:

The YSP-3050 also features an automated speaker setup function called Intellibeam. By connecting the provided microphone to the YSP-3050 and following the detailed instructions outlined in the user manual on pages 29-35, Intellibeam uses a series of test tones to determine the digital sound projection settings, in relation to the acoustical properties of your room. However, keep in mind that you may still have to make some minor adjustments manually after the automatic set up is completed in order to conform to you own listening tastes.

Audio Features - Sound Processing:

The YSP-3050 features several surround sound processing options including : Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS. Also, DTS Neo:6 and Dolby ProLogic II processing enables the YSP-3050 to extract 5.1 channel audio from stereo sources. This system also features XM-HD Neural Surround, Yamaha's Cinema DSP modes, and SRS TruBass. Depending on how the speaker configuration is set, the YSP-3050 can project a full 5.1 channel surround field down to a two channel stereo field. The surround speaker modes are: 5 Beam, 3 Beam, 3 Beam + Stereo, 2ch Stereo, My Beam, My Surround, and 5ch Stereo

Video Inputs and Outputs:

The YSP-3050 offers Two HDMI inputs and one output, as well as one Component input. There is also one Composite Video input and one output, two additional analog audio-only inputs, plus a front panel audio input connection.

Video Processing:

The Yamaha YSP-3050 features HDMI pass through of high definition signals up to 1080p. Also, all standard definition Composite and component input signals are deinterlaced from 480i and converted to 480p and then upscaled up to 1080i output via the HDMI monitor outputs.

Front Panel Display and Controls:

The controls on the front of the YSP-3050 are minimal, limited to on/off, volume, and input selection. However, there is a front panel LED display, which, when combined with the wireless remote and onscreen menu system, makes setup and operation of the Digital Sound Projector easy and fast.

AM/FM and XM Satellite Radio :

The YSP-3050 not only has the standard AM/FM tuner, but also has built-in XM Satellite Radio connectivity. Subscription and optional tuner/antenna are required for receiving XM Satellite Radio Service. Their are also 40 station presets provided that can be used for setting any combination of favorite AM/FM or XM stations or channels. XM-HD Neural Surround processing is also offered for compatible XM-HD radio programming.

It?s not just about how it sounds... it?s also about style, and how well it complements a wall or stand-mounted plasma , LCD or rear-projection video display. With slim, contemporary design, it becomes an elegant statement of the latest in home theater technology. And, since it can be used as an on-wall system, you can take the Digital Sound Projector with you if you move!
