HP 6-cell battery for Mini 1000 netbook

You may still not be able to get that VGA adapter, but it looks like HP Mini 1000 users can now finally get their hands on the six-cell battery for the netbook, which should provide a significant boost over the stock three-cell battery. As you may recall, this follows a brief spat of seeming availability in January but, judging from some of the responses on the HP Mini forums, it looks like HP has since canceled the few orders that got through before the battery was pulled from its site. Those folks may not be too disappointed any longer, however, as the battery now has a price tag of $95.99 (after a $20 instate rebate), which is quite a bit easier to swallow than the $153.90 that HP was originally asking.

That makes for a not exactly cheap runtime upgrade, when the HP Mini 1000 range itself starts at just over twice that amount. Still, the promise of double the battery life will appeal to many. It remains to be seen exactly how much bulk the battery will add to the netbook.

The 6-cell battery is listed as a lithium polymer, 2.4Ah and 53Wh at a price of $153.90 plus $11.25 for standard shipping or $16.95 for NBD and it is in stock and orderable.

The underpowered 3 cell battery gets two and a half to two and three quarters of an hour out of a session. That’s uninspiring. Add to that the fact that HP’s 6 cell battery that promises 7 hours looks like a snail’s foot sticking out of the bottom of the Mini, and you have my classic frustration with using things developed by engineers.
