Acer Extensa 4420 Not coming out of standby mode

Hello there, I have recently bought an Acer Extensa 4420 laptop. The laptop is in dual boot mode and has Windows 7 and Windows XP loaded on it. The problem is whenever I put the laptop in Standby mode, I cant get it back to normal mode. The laptop becomes unresponsive after putting it in the standby mode. It if any key on the keyboard is hit, it shows that the laptop is turning on but it gives black screen only. After that all the keys become unresponsive. The only way to shut down the computer is to remove the battery of the laptop. Also the BIOS settings change after the laptop reboots. Can anybody explain why Acer Extensa 4420 is not coming out of standby mode? Any suggestions/solutions are more than welcome.

I think the problem which you are facing is due to the operating system failure. Operating system needs many files to operate properly. If any of the files which are associated with the operating system gets corrupt then the operating system will not work properly. The only way to solve the problem is to replace all the files which are corrupted. If you have the installation disk of the operating system then insert it in the drive and boot the system from the disk. Once the installer loads, select the Repair Windows installation option and then let the procedure complete. Once the procedure is complete, see if the laptop is working properly or not.

By looking at the problem, I think that the computer is not able to access the hard drive of the computer when it is put to standby mode. Check the preferences of the computer for standby mode. It is possible that the hard drive of the computer is going to sleep when the computer is put to standby mode. Go to the power management option. Now in the Power schemes tab, click on the option which says "Turn off the hard drive" and select Never from the drop down list. This will ensure that the hard drive of the computer is never put to sleep while in standby. Now save and apply the settings and reboot the laptop. Check if the laptop is working properly or not.

If the system is not able to access the system RAM then it is bound to create such problems. All the files of the application or operating system are first loaded in the system RAM and are then executed. If the system is not able to access the system RAM then files which are required to be executed will not be copied to the RAM and hence will not be executed. Therefore if you can open the laptop, remove the RAM chips and clean the connecting terminals of the RAM. Clean the slot in which the RAM is connected. Replace the RAM in its respective slots after cleaning. If you have multiple RAM chips then try booting the laptop using one chip at a time. If for a particular RAM chip, the system does not boot then discard the RAM chip as it may be faulty.

All the functions which are carried out by the computer are controlled by the motherboard. If the motherboard of the computer itself is faulty then the computer will not work properly. The main power bank which provides power to all the devices connected to the motherboard, is also present on the motherboard. Hence if the motherboard is not working properly, it will not be able to provide correct voltage levels to all the devices which are connected. As the laptop is new, I would suggest you to take the laptop to Acer service center and get it checked. If there is some hardware to be replaced, it will be replaced for free if the laptop is under warranty.

It can be due to the residual charge storage. Almost all the laptops face the problem of Residual charge storage. Residual charge gets stored near the RAM chips of the laptop. If the voltage of the charge accumulated near the RAM chips is more then the system will not be able to access the system RAM. Therefore you will have to remove the residual charge. To remove the residual charge, shut down the laptop and disconnect it from the AC source. Remove the battery and press the power button for about 30 seconds. Release the button after 30 seconds and then replace the battery. Once the battery is replaced, boot the laptop and see if the problem persist.

The BIOS of the system is able to store the setting because of the presence of the battery on the motherboard of the laptop. Open the laptop and locate the battery on the motherboard. Remove the battery and then check the voltage across it. The voltage of the battery should be between 2.5 to 3 volts. If the voltage of the battery is less than 2.5 volts then the system will not be able to save the BIOS settings and will not respond sometime. Replace the battery and all the problems will be solved.
