New Panasonic Lumix TZ6 Digital camera

After the couple Lumix TZ4 and TZ5, place the couple TZ6 and TZ7! This renewal in the range of compact digital Panasonic should stop all users in search of a compact zoom very powerful. Although the competition starts getting around this niche very versatile compact (see ads Olympus Mju 9000 and Samsung WB500), the "TZ" Panasonic remain the reference in the matter.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ6 (called ZS1 U.S.) is not much special, with 10 megapixels and the typical systems face detection, image stabilizer to the pictures do not leave very moved … that yes, yes must be stressed by something, which is 12 for his zoom increases.

Not bad for a camera that calls for a high quality and zoom, in some important moments, such as vacations, but would be among the most advanced compact, the optical zoom of 12 increases have to be cheap.

    Key specifications TZ6

    • Sensor: CCD 1 / 2, 5 to 10 million pixels (CCD 1 / 2, 3''12.1 MP for TZ7)
    • Objective: 12 x equivalent 25-300 mm f / 3.3 f / 4.9
    • Display: LCD 2.7 "230 000 pixels (3''460 to 000 pixels TZ7)
    • Macro: 3 cm
    • Sensitivity: 80 to 6 400 Iso
    • Shutter speed: 60 to 1 / 2 000 s
    • Video mode: Motion JPEG 848 x 480 pixels at 30 fps (1 280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps for TZ7)

The features are in the spotlight once again zoom (always stabilized obviously) from 10 x on previous models in the series to a range of 12 x, while enjoying the opportunity to draw even more to the Wide-angle (25 mm 28 mm against the previous models), and video. The TZ7 puts great special emphasis on this function to install a method of recording HD (1 280 x 720 at 30 fps) and a screen with both broad and specific, ideal for viewing . Constraint for storage, Panasonic has this year opted for the AVCHD format, which offers a very good ratio quality / compression and is now poised to become a reference on digital camcorders. It also notes the presence on the TZ7 of a button dedicated to video recording, an HDMI output and a stereo microphone. As on previous models, the optical stabilization, zoom and autofocus are active during the video. More modest but quite the page, TZ6 merely a 2.7-inch screen and a video recording 848 x 480 at 30 frames per second.

Another improved feature is called 'Face Recognition', so-called because it's a feature that recognises faces. Astonishing! If you take photos of the same person several times, the camera prompts you to enter their name and even their age. In future photos, the camera can make focusing on this person a priority over a bunch of strangers. We'd love for names and faces assigned on the camera to be transferred to Apple's iPhoto '09, but we'll get back to you on that -- a Panasonic spokesperson couldn't confirm it at the time of publication.

The DMC-TZ6 is a less feature-packed version of the TZ7, offering the same 10-megapixel resolution, aspect ratio options, 12x optical zoom and 76mm LCD display, but lacking the HD video capture and face-recognition feature.

A very powerful zoom without the resolution that goes with it.

    Things that worked well:
    • The Intelligent Auto mode worked pretty well for most situations. I suggest studying the exposure compensation settings since I had to use these often in high contrast and full sun situations.
    • One handed operation works well.
    • Menu system was pretty intuitive for basic functions.
    • Zoom is amazing and E.Zoom setting was very useful. Be sure to read how to use the "extended optical zoom" which lets you go out to 16.9x at reduced picture quality (I believe you have to have picture quality set at max 9MB and this is then reduced to 3MB). I didn't use the digital zoom.
    • The screen is gorgeous and the playback is amazing - many people commented on this.
    • Taking video is pretty easy, though I would have preferred a button rather than having to rotate a dial. Be careful on playback to distinguish between what is a still picture and what is video - I accidentally deleted some video because I thought they were poor still shots, rather than the start of the video.
    • If the dial is accidentally rotated, the camera will not let you take a picture until you correctly choose an actually setting.
    • Fairly quick start up - not stellar but not bad.
    • Can set up something called Travel Date, which will organize pictures by 1st, 2nd, 3rd day. This was useful when sharing pictures and to help you remember the chronology of the trip.
    • You can zoom while taking video, although more slowly than with still shots.

    hi,
10MP is almost the maximum usable on a compact at the moment beyond the image becomes very noisy in low light
and I do not understand the "without the resolution goes with" how it will be 15MP? and to do what?
there is the optical zoom digital zoom therefore has little interest in this kind of model. 12X ca already beginning to become very powerful.
