Samson CO1U USB Microphone not recognized anymore

About a month ago I bought a Samson CO1U USB Condenser Microphone. It worked like a charm until yesterday when I plugged it in and got the dreaded "USB Device Not Recognized" message. I've tried all the little troubleshooting tips like turning the laptop on and off etc., updating the drivers (which is near impossible for some reason).

I tried the microphone on a different computer and got the same message, which I guess confirms it's a problem with the microphone and not the laptop.

Would there be any way to fix this? Like I said, I've only had it for a month and I really don't want to go through the hassle of sending it back (considering the stand that came with it has snapped which will be a problem)

Help would be greatly appreciated,

Did you install the driver software that came with the C01U? That never worked for me, so i ended up actually uninstalling the driver and just plugging the microphone directly in the USB port - Windows XP should recognize it as a generic microphone. Haven't had a problem since - hope this helps!

Have you also installed Samson “applet” to get additional tweakery and bitfiddlery. Don’t install the applet. It also drops a kernel extension into your system, and requires a reboot. Sure, it gives you a cool-looking levels controller, but it also makes the microphone invisible to audio apps. So uninstall the .kext and reboot to clear it out. The mic will be visible again.

I had a Samson mic earlier and this also happened to me. Suddenly my Vista could not recognize the mic properly. Before going through a Windows Vista reinstall <shudder>, I tried System Restore. Much to my surprise, it worked!

Ugh, wish I tried that, I already went ahead with reinstalling Vista.

Ahh well, looks like it's just broken.

I don't think your mic broke.I just bought a new SAMSON USB CO1U microphone, plugged it in and windows recognised it and all went well.An hour later when I tried again, t
windows (7) wouls not recognise it.I wish I knew what to do...Does anyone know?
