Corsair enters the SSD (Solid State Drive) market with its new S128 series SSD. Comes in 2.5-inch form factor, the S128 has 128GB storage capacity. The Corsair S128 utilize the SATA II interface and offers 90MB/s read and 70MB/s write speeds. According to Corsair, the S128 will primarily target the mainstream market and boasts a read speed of 90MB/s and a write speed of 70MB/s. It will rely on a Samsung controller instead of the more prevalent JMicron 602 controller found in other SSDs.
Corsair was keen to point out that there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to quoted read and write speeds. Unlike many multi-level cell (MLC) SSDs, not including Intel’s, the S128 features a Samsung controller, as opposed to the often-used JMicron 602 controller.
Corsair is confident that its S128 drive will be able to meet its quoted read and write speeds, although it will cost more than the aforementioned drives based on the JMicron 602 controller. As well as the Samsung controller, the drive will also feature 128GB of specially-selected Samsung NAND chips.
