The compact and powerful zoom wide-angle are definitely in the spotlight early this year, which will perhaps not to the liking of a long Panasonic alone in this niche with a series of Lumix TZ. The competition is HZ1 Samsung, Olympus Mju 9000 or Samsung WB500.
This new compact push the logic of the ultra-versatile device still a notch above its competitors install an even more wide-angle: a 24-240 mm, against a 28-280 for models previously mentioned. The amateur photo groups, monuments or large landscapes appreciate these opportunities decline, rare on a compact. A zoom of such magnitude can hardly do without a stabilizer, and thus no surprise that there is a dual system (movement of optical lens, and digital) implemented in the WB500.
Another feature quite unusual for an aircraft of this type: the availability of many manual controls that make it possible to adjust the shutter speed, auto focus and aperture. The WB500 is then reported by the HD video mode available with optical zoom and its function as an "Intelligent Photo Album" that helps store and retrieve photos directly from the device.
Here are the main specifications:
- Sensor: CCD 10.2 million pixels
- Against: 2.7-inch LCD for 230000 pixels
- Zoom: 10 x, eq. 24 – 240 mm 24 - 240 mm
- Video with sound, in 1280 x 720 at 30 fps with stabilization and optical zoom assets
The WB500 declined in black and silver, will be available in February 2009 at a price of 299 euros. As a reminder, the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 is now available from € 225.90 while the Olympus Mju 9000 is announced at a cost of 329 euros.
