WiMax Embedded Laptops Launched in India
During the global WiMax Exposition-cum-conference in New Delhi, the laptops installed with WiMax were unveiled, which come with Intel chips from computer manufacturers like Lenovo and Asus. The new WiMax embedded laptops are expected to increase the growth of wireless broadband in India at a really fast pace.
The theme of the conference is ?Transforming Narrowband India to Broadband India with Internet Airborne.? Global experts and WiMAX industry leaders are attending the expo.
The WiMAX laptops are expected to extend computing power and connectivity to tertiary towns and remote areas in India. The laptops withIntel chips will be manufactured by LENOVO and ASUS. They will speed up the wireless broadband growth in the country.
This is the first WiMAX Expo cum Conference in the country and was organized after the announcement of the Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) spectrum auction policy by the Department of Telecommunications.
Raja emphasized that the WiMAX spectrum should be used optimally by operators for providing next-generation Internet services, including Web casting, video download, and music download. He said that wireless broadband or more possibly WiMAX will be able to meet the needs of the BPO industry, IT outsourcing industry, BFSI segment, education, tourism, travel and hospitality sectors.
All these industries demand high-speed Internet services and ?anywhere? Internet capability. Operators have to ensure affordability, accessibility and good quality of service once the WiMAX networks are launched. This will cater to the needs of various segments of the society, such as residential, SMBs and corporate.
Studies carried out by ASSOCHAM and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) show that broadband access will generate nearly two million direct employment opportunities and 50 million indirect employment opportunities between 2010 and 2020. Benefits are expected to be more than $70 billion in productivity and improvement.
WiMAX enables subscribers to access applications over wired connections along with mobility and portability. The latest WiMAX-enabled mobile devices result in the launch of new applications suitable for mobile access.
WiMAX is most suitable for real-time applications like VoIP, content streaming, online gaming and vertical applications in safety and surveillance due to its robust QoS and low latency. Broadcast applications are made possible via the Multicast Broadcast Service.
Further, it was announced by the WiMax Forum that they are conceptualizing a WiMax Applications Lab at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Since IIT Delhi has a functioning WiMax test bed, it would be a perfect location for the construction of this lab.
This lab, which would be supported by the Indian industry and DoT, would concentrate on increasing WiMax quality of experience and WiMax community services for underserved areas.
