    Toshiba Portege R600

    Toshiba Portege R600

Toshiba's upcoming R600 ultra-portable notebook improves on the previous generation by offering significantly longer battery life and a lighter chassis. While the previous R500 model weighed 2.4 pounds and could run for about three hours, the new base-model R600 weighs 2.1 pounds and manages to stay alive for up to nine hours. As with its earlier sibling, the machine features a Core 2 Duo 1.2Ghz processor, 1GB of memory, integrated graphics, a built-in optical drive, and a 12-inch 1280x800 transflective display that works well in both indoor and outdoor lighting. The pricier flagship model upgrades the processor to 1.4GHz and sports a 128GB solid state drive.

    Toshiba Portege M750

    Toshiba Portégé M750 Tablet PC

Toshiba's upcoming M750 tablet PC gets subtle improvements over the previous M700, featuring a bump from a Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz processor to 2.4Ghz. Shipping with 2GB of memory, the latest tablet can handle up to 8GB and includes a 200GB 7200RPM drive, where the previous model was expandable only to 4GB and topped out at 120GB of storage. Though it has nearly identical physical dimensions to the earlier version at 1.6-inches thin and weighing 4.4 pounds, the new model replaces Intel's GMA X3100 integrated graphics card with the X4500, giving a bump to graphic performance.

    Toshiba Portege A600

Toshiba will be releasing a new addition to the Portege notebook family that looks to be a budget-version of the the new R600 -- the pricey, 2.1 pound, 0.77-inch thin ultra-portable. While the A600 is larger and heavier -- weighing just over three pounds with a height of 1.18-inches -- it costs almost half the price of the base-model R600. With an eight hour battery life that is only one hour less than its sibling, it features the R-series' great selection of ports including three USB, PC card slot, SD card slot and an ethernet port. Though Apple's Macbook Air sports a faster Core 2 Duo 1.6Ghz processor and thinner profile, the 1.2Ghz A600 with 2GB of memory and a slightly better integrated graphics card costs hundreds less.

Toshiba Portege R600 Gets 9-Hour Battery Life

Toshiba Portege R600 Gets 9-Hour Battery Life

Toshiba claims that their latest Portege R600 is able to last for a phenomenal nine hours before requiring a trip to the nearest power outlet. I find that great news, but wouldn't want to take Toshiba's word for it since most people who do work on their notebooks might be running many more applications simultaneously compared to test conditions. Still, even if one lops off a couple of hours from the nine hour stated figure, it is still pretty impressive. The Portege R600 comes with the following :-

    12.1" LCD display
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.4GHz processor
    2GB RAM (max. 5GB)
    128GB SSD/160GB hard drive
    DVD burner
This sub-1kg notebook will retail for approximately £1,225.

    Multimedia: Toshiba Portégé A600

Toshiba's Portégé A600 includes the following leading-edge technologies:

EasyGuard® Technology(5): Toshiba's Portégé A600 laptop features Toshiba's fourth-generation EasyGuard Technology with PC Health Monitor. This new feature is a preventative maintenance utility that continuously checks the performance and functionality of a laptop's critical hardware components and will alert users when the system is in need of a tune up. PC Health Monitor tracks the status of critical components, such as hard drive status, battery life and CPU temperature and system cooling warnings. In addition to PC Health Monitor, Toshiba's EasyGuard Technology is a proprietary, value-added series of hardware and software enhancements designed to better protect and secure one's laptop during everyday computing. Components include HDD Protection, a spill-resistant keyboard(6), fingerprint reader and Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

Integrated Optical Drive: Toshiba's Portégé A600 laptop uses Toshiba's proprietary High Density Mounting Technology process to enable dual-sided motherboard component mounting. This innovative technology provides enough system real estate for the incorporation of a built-in optical drive, which reduces the laptop's travel weight by providing users with an all-in-one solution, eliminating the bulk and inconvenience of carrying additional drives and cables.

LED Display: The Portégé A600 features a 12.1-inch LED backlit display to provide users with an image rich in color saturation and superb quality. The use of LED backlighting provides Portégé A600 users with reduced thickness, reduced weight, increased brightness and decreased power consumption, compared to a conventional CCFL backlighting display.

    USB Sleep-and-Charge/eSATA Combo Port(7)
: This unique port provides convenience and speed by allowing data transfers to and from an eSATA external hard drive at rates up to five times faster than USB 2.0, and the ability to charge select USB mobile devices whether the laptop is on, off, or in sleep or hibernation mode.

    Green Attributes:
The Portégé A600 is ENERGY STAR® 4.0 compliant and has achieved a Gold status through the Green Electronics Council's Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT).

Toshiba is offering a new, free electronic trade-in and recycling program which includes all laptop PCs and other select electronics, regardless of manufacturer, that have no trade-in value. For more details, please visit http://explore.toshiba.com/green. No purchase is necessary to participate in the recycling program.
