Verizon might be making plenty of noise with the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 9500, but Vodafone decided to let their action do the talking by actually announcing the device instead of just teasing us with commercials like Verizon does.

The BlackBerry Storm represents Research In Motion's first direct response to Apple's iPhone, differing in some ways through a pressure-sensitive LCD, text highlight, and copy/paste functionality. Still, some analysts observe that RIM has its "head in the sand" when it comes to competing with the popular device.

The iPhone is also making inroads to RIM's territory, having recently been discovered to occupy 17 percent of the US smartphone market, or more than one in every six smartphone handsets.
