    Sony Bravia App SDK Released

Intel and Yahoo were making all kinds of noise about on-screen TV widgets back at IDF, but it looks like Sony's beating them to the punch -- select Japanese Bravia sets can already browse the web and run a few official widgets through the XMB interface, but now there's also an SDK for third-party developers. As at press time, there are a few available widgets such as a clock, RSS news and weather among others. There will be more complicated widgets such as Yahoo! Auctions, Yahoo! Topics, and Yahoo! Image Search on their way as well. The available Bravia models that support the use of widgets are the KDL-46F1/40F1/32F1/52V1/46V1/40V1/32J1/26J1/20J1/20M1/16M1 with more models to come in the future. The Windows XP/Vista-only SDK boasts the following :-

The real news however is that Sony Japan has released a Bravia App SDK for the general public to download and use to create widgets. A Bravia XMB emulator is also included, which allows developers to test their widgets on a Bravia with great ease. Sony has also promised that validation time for Apps will not take long as they are limited in size (max 1.3MB)
