ninja reviews HTC Touch Pro, LG Lotus, BlackBerry Storm

BREW Ninja, who readily (and oddly for a ninja) enough admits that he's a mobile QA engineer over at Yahoo! Mobile, just scooped 3x phones in this quickie 4 and half minute video. The HTC Coke -- a variant of the HTC Touch Pro -- and tiny LG Lotus with full QWERTY for Sprint (AKA, LX600) are both interesting, but it's the hands-on video of RIM's touchscreen Thunder that blows our doors. At roughly 2:55, BREW Ninja whips out the touchscreen-y smartphone and shows off some of its apparently underwhelming (to him, at least) features—an accelerometer, a screen that functions as a button, and an ugly-as-sin on-screen keyboard.

Anyone know the exact screen size (not the resolution) of this thing? This spec seems to be a state secret.

    BlackBerry Storm Photos Leaked

While we wait for the public announcement of Verizon’s BlackBerry Storm, the leaks are coming thick and fast. An anonymous source at the carrier has leaked these images snapped from today’s internal webcast, together with hardware details and, after the cut, a Talking Points sheet about the 9530 Storm. We now know that it has a “revolutionary” touchscreen (with built-in haptic feedback), both EV-DO and GSM connectivity for global use, a 3.2-megapixel camera (that can record video) and a full HTML browser.

The briefing described the touchscreen as “one of the highest resolution screens on the market today”, though no actual specifications were given. It’s uncertain how it might compare to HTC’s Touch HD, which has an 800 x 480 WVGA touchscreen.

There’s also visual voicemail and VZ Navigator compatibility. No word on availability or price, but the carrier has instructed employees that, if customers come in to ask about the Storm, they can inform them “yes, we’re getting it and yes, I can tell you about it”, suggesting a release sooner rather than later.

    Some Photos of BlackBerry Storm

Some purported screen shots of Vodafone-branded Blackberry Storm have emerged today. If you believe what you see is for real, then you may be a bit disappointed. The resolution on the screen is quite nice but the interface, well, looks just like a Blackberry. Should we be surprised by that? The calendar, email, and browser look incredibly text-based for a touchscreen device that promises to take the world by Storm. Where are all the pretty icons that we can tap on? Let’s hope these images are only a small sample and the rest of the UI is significantly better than what is shown. Otherwise, this is one Storm that may just go out to sea. Hit the jump for some more pictures.

Blackberry Storm Dummy Hits Verizon Store

Well, it’s not quite as big as that gigantic promo Bold, but dummies of the Blackberry Storm have started appearing in Verizon stores, and it’s looking a lot, uh, more robust than we remember from all those leaks. Specs include an appropriately multicultural photo of happy people, non-functioning buttons, and a list of Verizon talking points. Still no hard release date, but we’re guessing something this big can’t be contained for much longer.
