Buffalo first external solid state USB drive

Buffalo has released what it claims is the country's first external solid-state drive. The MicroStation line has a maximum 100GB raw storage capacity - 32GB and 64GB versions are also available - that connects using a USB 2.0 which wraps round the drive.

The drive's a compact 89 x 57 x 14mm and weighs just 60g. Buffalo claimed the drive has a top transfer rate of 35MB/s, though it didn't say whether that's a read speed or for writing - we'd say it's the former.

Although given the pricing (£115, £230 and £344 for the 32GB, 64GB and 100GB models respectively), we doubt many buyers will be too keen on putting its mettle to the test.

the MicroStation. This tiny storage device will come in 32GB, 64GB and 100GB capacities, connecting to your computer through USB 2.0 that is wrapped around its body neatly when not in use. It has a maximum data transfer speed of 35MB/s, measuring a bag friendly 89mm x 57mm x 14mm.

Guess you won't have any worries of your data inside getting corrupted whenever you drop the MicroStation, eh? The pricing might cause people to stay away still though, since the 32GB model will go for £115, while the 64GB and 100GB models will retail for £230 and £344, respectively.

It's good but it's still expensive. With the democratization of this kind of device, you can expect a drop in prices during the next year
