Actual Picture of the New iPod Nano

    Fourth-generation iPod nano.

MacNN can confirm the existence of the fourth-generation iPod nano and has obtained a verified authentic photo of the Apple music player. The device exactly matches claims by Digg founder Kevin Rose of a tall, tapered design and is enclosed in wrap-around aluminum, as with the second-generation model. It also has the same offset Dock Connector placement of the 2006 version and marks the return of at least one color that had previously disappeared from the iPod lineup: the example shown to MacNN comes in the same metallic orange as the early 2007 iPod shuffle update. Other colors will be more vibrant than the pale hues from the third-generation nano, according to the sources.
Similar packaging to earlier low-end iPods will also accompany the nano and are visible in the shot.

MacNN provides little else to fill in details of the product itself but is convinced the updated iPod nano will not only be announced at next week's "Let's Rock" event but that it should be ready to sell almost right away and thus mirror many of Apple's more recent product launches. The site also warns returning students that the new models won't qualify for the back-to-school promotion from this summer that ends on September 15th.

The report claims that the new nano is wrapped entirely in aluminum, but that it will come in "more vibrant" colors than the light-tinted models on sale today -- one of which is the coppery orange that was used for the second-generation iPod shuffle.

Throwbacks to the new model's close cousin, the second-generation iPod nano, are also in evidence elsewhere: the dock connector is once again offset from the center, and the packaging is the same clear, tall plastic case.

First Look at New iPod Nano Interface?

We have received these two pictures of the iPod nano showing a new interface. They look like Apple's own product illustrations and the interface is very polished, but of course we don't know if they are real or not. Polished enough to be Apple's own. Actually we like them so much that we hope they are the real thing, although we can't say for sure. Check the playback screen after the jump.
