Toshiba to present the world's lightest LED projector

Toshiba presented its ultra-compact, ultra-light LED projector offering the ultimate in mobility and portability during IFA 2008.

The company also introduced many more examples of the future of projector technology, with the objective of maximum eco-friendliness and brightness, minimum dimensions and sleek, timeless design. All devices presented at the exhibition are scheduled for market launch during 2009.

Measuring 45 mm x 17 mm x 100 mm, it is around the size of the average mobile phone. No wonder that this mini-miracle is also so light in weight – at100 grams including battery, it is currently the lightest projector in the world and among the smallest. Used with a smartphone, the mobile LED projector can deliver presentations anywhere, any time with the minimum of effort and equipment.

Two years after presenting the world's first LED projector(model: ff1), Toshiba now adds a further crowning achievement at IFA 2008. This LED achievement underlines the company's leadership status in the development of future-oriented innovations.

The major benefit of LED technology over conventional projection methods is the far longer lifespan of the LEDs and their efficient energy use. Because LEDs do not heat up when in use, powerful fans are unnecessary, enabling the housing to be streamlined accordingly. In addition to the technical advantages, LED technology also signals the direction of future progress: LEDs offer extremely low power consumption and are highly durable.

Toshiba (Australia) Pty. Limited Information Systems Division (ISD) has drawn upon the latest breakthrough in miniaturisation, LED and mobile technology with the release of three new portable projectors: the Toshiba FF1, S8 and P8 projector.

Toshiba FF1 projector: Micro LED projector (RRP $1799 Inc GST)

As well as being the world’s first LED projector, the Toshiba FF1 is also the world’s smallest and lightest projector, weighing only 565 grams and with dimensions of 136 x 100 x 55mm. At this size, it fits in the palm of a hand.

The LED projection technology gives businesses lower cost of ownership through its low power consumption and no need for lamp replacement. It also runs significantly cooler and quieter than most projectors that use high powered lamps and noisy fans.

Despite its size, the Toshiba FF1 projector has SVGA resolution and 1500:1 contrast ratio. For business people constantly travelling or those who want to take their entertainment on the road, the FF1 features quick-start and USB-reader for making presentations quickly. The projector also has an immediate shut-down mechanism.

Available in a pearl casing, the FF1 comes with a small foldable screen, carry bag (with room for a notebook) and rechargeable battery, so that a PC and power outlet is not required.

Toshiba P8 DLP projector: ultra-portable business projector ($3299 Inc GST)

Designed for small businesses and mobile professionals, the Toshiba P8 is an XGA projector with a high contrast ratio of 2100:1 and 1500 ANSI lumens for quality images in the meeting room.

Weighing one kilogram, the portable P8 projects across 16 million colours for crisp and clear images.

The P8 also features auto image set-up and keystone correction for simple and fast start-up and operation, and up to 3000 hours lamp life. Additionally, it comes with a USB cable for remote mouse control, laser pointer and carry bag.

Toshiba S8 DLP projector: spectator bundle package ($1999 incl. GST)

2006 is a big year for sport with the Commonwealth Games, Winter Olympics, Soccer, Cricket, NRL, Formula One Grand Prix and more. With the Toshiba S8 projector, viewers can watch the action live or record* it to watch at a later time on the big screen.

Catering for those wanting an all-in-one package for the home, the Toshiba S8 projector comes bundled with a Digital TV tuner for DVD quality images, HDD recorder (in tuner), and high quality AV cable for clear and crisp video content.

The S8 is a SVGA projector boasting 2000:1 contrast ratio, 10,000 hours lamp life and 2000 ANSI lumens for day time viewing. It also comes with password protection and panel lock for added security, and ECO mode for noise reduction and extended lamp life.

All Toshiba projectors come standard with three year warranty and 90 day new product replacement.

    Availability:

Toshiba FF1 projector will be available through Toshiba authorised resellers and distributors from early March 2006. Toshiba P8 projectors are available exclusively to Harris Technology today; and the Toshiba S8 spectator package is available through authorised Toshiba retailers today.
