Canon's New Pixma Multifunction Printers: Canon PIXMA MP630 & Canon PIXMA MP980

The printers and multifunction peripherals are emblematic of the start of classes, and is therefore not surprising that manufacturers renew their ranges widely in this time of year. Canon is not lacking to this principle by not less than seven new models: three entry-level, two mid-range and two high-end, the PIXMA MP630 and MP980 which we are interested here.

These two models are characterized by fine print (1 picolitre droplets), a print resolution up to 9 600 x 2 400 dpi, automatic duplex, dual paper and printing CD / DVD .

    The PIXMA MP630
The MP630 is presented by Canon as a "mini digital photo lab for creative."It is replacing the MP610 and we were particularly convinced by its panel functions, its ease of use, quality of his prints and its cost to the master. The MP630 takes therefore the same ingredients while taking advantage of a new print engine. The impression is always from five cartridges with a separate cartridge-based black ink colouring used in printing on photo paper. The MP630 benefits then the screen size of 6.2 cm and a panel composed of a command IrDA interface, a card reader and a USB port / PictBridge.

    450 x 368 x 176 mm to 8.8 kg

The good news this season, is that Canon was applied to reduce the weight and dimensions of its new models, which was not really superfluous as some were large. On balance, the MP630 displays and 8.8 kg against 10 kg for the MP610 it replaces. It is indeed a step forward.

    Its main features:
    • Scanner: type CIS, optical scanning until 4800 x 9600 dpi
    • Speed printing in black: up to 12.8 ppm standard
    • Speed color printing: up to 11.2 ppm standard
    • Speed printing quality photo lab: approximately 20 seconds for a 10 x 15 cm margins without a quality standard.
    • Copy Speed black / colors: up to 24 cpm / 19 cpm
    • References cartridges: PGI-520BK, CLI-521BK, CLI-521C, CLI-521M, CLI-521Y

    The PIXMA MP980
The MP980 can be regarded as the jewel of this new range of Pixma. It is characterized by its dual orientation digital / analog because of its 4 800 dpi scanner fitted with an adaptor for films and slides. For this scanner, Canon has appealed to white LED which provide immediate availability, without preheating. The MP980 is then reported by its color screen of 8.8 cm (the largest of the range) and by its dual Wi-Fi connectivity and Ethernet. It is finally noted that the printing is done here from six reservoirs separated one of which contains ink grey towards the achievement of black and white prints of higher quality.

    Canon PIXMA MP980

    • Speed printing in black: up to 11.4 ppm standard
    • Speed color printing up to 11 ppm standard
    • Speed printing quality photo lab: approximately 20 seconds for a 10 x 15 cm margins without a quality standard.

    • References cartridges: PGI-520BK, CLI-521C, CLI-521M, CLI-521Y, CLI-521BK, CLI-521GY

Hopefully, the MP630 remains at the same rate as the MP610 ^ ^

    canon mp630

As far as I can make out, there is no major improvement with the canon MP630 over the earlier MP610. One problem however, seems to be that the new model prints up to 30% fewer pages with the change in print cartridge type. This just seems to make more money for Canon with little benefit for the consumer

Do these models print directly onto DVDs and CDs or is it just suitable labels, which can then be stuck onto the disc?
