The Japanese Elpida announced this week the release of what is likely that the first memory of 16 GB never put on the market. At FB-DIMM format, this memory, which is therefore logically reserved for the world of servers, meets 64 modules 2 gigabits (256 MB) DDR2 low consumption, assembled using the technique of "stacked FBGA." Elpida said to have managed to obtain a card with a thickness not exceeding 7.7 mm. The manufacturer also claims that its power consumption would be equivalent to that of barrettes 8 GB currently available on the market. The first samples will be available during the month, while the actual production is expected to begin around the fourth quarter.
