GTX 680 vs. Quadro 4000

I am going to assemble a new PC for myself for regular use. I am a regular gamer and I like to play the latest games. As we have seen that latest games have high end graphics, I want to have a graphic card that can provide me with graphics in the game. I asked the vendor for best graphic card available and he showed me ASUS GeForce GTX 680 and PNY VCQ4000-PB Quadro 4000. I donít have much idea about these graphic cards. So if anybody has used them or have any idea about it, can they tell me which graphic card is the best?

Re: GTX 680 vs. Quadro 4000

Actually when you mentioned ASUS GeForce GTX 680 and PNY VCQ4000-PB Quadro 4000, the first thing that I realized that both the graphic cards have completely different purposes. ASUS GeForce GTX 680 is meant for general purposes, most probably gaming.

But PNY VCQ4000-PB Quadro 4000 is meant for professional uses, like 3D rendering and other stuff. The main reason is that PNY VCQ4000-PB Quadro 4000 is built and designed for accuracy and perfection, while ASUS GeForce GTX 680 is meant for speed and performance. So first decide what you purpose will be then decide which graphic card you want to buy.

Re: GTX 680 vs. Quadro 4000

The performance of the PNY VCQ4000-PB Quadro 4000 is somewhat optimized for the use of line anti-aliasing. This is done so that this graphic card is completely focused on 3D rendering and other professional uses. It6 wonít be fun playing games on PNY VCQ4000-PB Quadro 4000.

Also the drivers of this graphic card are designed in different way than other graphic cards which are out of this series. Sometimes it might happen that some game might not be compatible with specific game. This can be problem for you.

Re: GTX 680 vs. Quadro 4000

I think that you should go with ASUS GeForce GTX 680 instead of PNY VCQ4000-PB Quadro 4000. The basic architecture of Quadro 4000 is not good for gaming. This graphic card has a lower version of shader in it. The shader used in Quadro 4000 is of 256 MB. As compared to many other graphic cards that do not come under Quadro series have better shader in them, maybe around 512 MB and so. Also PNY Quadro 4000 has a high capacity V-RAM in it. This V-RAM is used for video editing and other such activities. These activities need to store lot of values and data for temporary use. So for gaming, PNY Quadro 4000 is not worth it as compared to ASUS GeForce GTX 680.

Re: GTX 680 vs. Quadro 4000

I suggest you to use ASUS GeForce GTX 680 for general purpose. PNY VCQ4000-PB Quadro 4000 is sort of outdated graphic card and there are many other graphic cards that will provide you much better performance for gaming. The quality of games has gone increasing largely in past few years. So using PNY VCQ4000-PB Quadro 4000 is not practical. With ASUS GeForce GTX 680 in your computer, you will be able to play games for next two years comfortably.
