| Re: Kids should be given mobile phone at what age?
I think 10 – 15 is best according to the new generation, in my case I am having 2 kids and I had given them their first phone when they had cleared out their ssc. I don’t think there is any point in giving any kid a mobile phone between the age of 5 to 10 years. The purpose of giving our kid mobile phone is mostly security, so that we can know what they are doing and where they are. It depends on them how they use it and I don’t think any parents will have any issue with that. The reason I said there is no point of giving mobile phone to kids between the age of 5 to 10 years is because at that age they will be in school. I personally used to stay tension free after leaving my children’s to school and I never found there was a need of cell phone to communicate with them. Later when they passed their ssc and started attending their college the feeling of security got decreased as they had to travel all the way to their college using different means of transport and there was really a need of mobile phone sop that I can communicate with then timely and know where they are and what are they doing. |

I agree to your points but I think that depends, I mean there are some children’s who go to school through different means of transportation as their school is far from their place. Handling mobile phone to our kids basically depends upon the situation, in our times mobile phones were not allowed to carry in schools but with the generation their rules have changed. There are children who stay far away from their school and their parents can’t drop them daily, so there is a need of phone to communicate with them while they leave to school or when they are on the way to home. It’s all about security as you have mentioned I know some schools where they allow kids between 5 to 10 years carry phones but they make then keep it off. They don’t allow them to use it in school and I think that’s a good policy as well. Schools are quite safe now a days and I don’t think a parent should worry much when their kids are in school. |

I think there is no harm in giving our kid cell phones at any age, the thing that matter is that they should be able to handle it. Every parent wants to know where their kids are while they are out for schools or colleges. I will suggest you all to give your kids cell phones as far as the security is concerned but make sure that you are giving them simple phones and not latest or fancy phones until they cross 15. The generation is changing fast and we all know that, there is no need of giving latest phones or Smartphone’s to kids until they are in school. You can handle them latest or fancy phones when they start attending their college so that they stay satisfied with additional functionalities of the phone and we stay satisfied with their security. |

That’s a very good point MarDaA has made here, I have seen school students carrying cell phones in school and misusing it. They get indulge in watching porn’s, unnecessary chit chatting etc. These things distract their minds from studies. So if we’ll give them simple phones then there won’t be much point of distraction and we will be satisfied with their security as well. |

I agree to you upon that completely, latest phones having access to everything that can distract their mind should not be given to kids until they are in schools. Once they are in college we can’t restrict them to carry the same simple phones as environment of college is far different as compared to schools. I don’t think it would be good idea in restricting kids to carry latest phones until it’s in our budget. Kids are quite smarter now a days and we don’t have to teach them all the time rather just guide them regarding the right and wrong things. I have a son and he is in hsc now and God knows what he keeps doing in his phone throughout the day. Facebook, twitter and other entertainment keeps him busy in phone but I don’t mind the same as I find his age to be eligible for those things. |

I am just 18 and I think that we should get phones when we start going to colleges. The generation has changed a lot and so as the price of the mobile phones. My brother had got his first mobile phone after graduation because phones price were high at that time and his college was quite near. I agree to Gyan|dada for saying that it all depends on the situation. One can only make sure whether his kid needs a cell phone or not considering his situation. Some parent’s give their childrens latest mobile phones even when they are in school just for keeping then satisfied with their demands where as some give their children’s after cell phones after their graduation considering their financial situations. |

I have gone through a survey that was carried out by said and have found the best age to be between 13 and 15. I don’t mind saying it between 10 to 15 years, just like here I have come across below some smart points:
