According to me IP Messenger is one of the best LAN messenger that enables you to chat on network or LAN with other people if they are having the same application. The IP Messenger bit by bit identify people who are using the it in the and include to them your list with the name set in the software. Its an open source messenger based on TCP/UDP.

Winpopup LAN Messenger is a powerful communication software for a small or medium group of users on a LAN. Its use is very simple and requires no server to function, it can be used immediately after installation. You can view your online contacts and messages are transmitted at high speeds, enabling real-time discussion without slowdowns. You can also send documents.

    Hi,

I would like to add "dmessage" to the list since it has additional features like the "filter library" that enable us to target specific users (such as people running a specific application) and that from our point of view ad administrator, it's a "one way" messenger : users can't use to chat or send inappropriate information to everyone
