RK Launcher vs RocketDock vs ObjectDock

What is Dock?

A dock is a user interface feature of a number of operating systems that typically provides a user with a way of launching and switching between applications. Early implementations of the dock concept include the icon bar in Acorn Computers's Arthur operating system and the dock in the NEXTSTEP operating system. Other dock implementation are included in Apple's Newton OS and iPhone OS and a variety of third party applications that add dock features to operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and Linux, though Mac OS X's has been the most commercially successful.

Re: RK Launcher vs RocketDock vs ObjectDock

I use RK Launcher on Windows XP. RK Launcher is a free application, similar to the dock in the Aqua GUI. The application has support for themes. Icons with the file extension .PNG and .ICO can be placed on the dock for shortcuts to applications and documents. The application also mimics the smooth zooming and scrolling effects of the Mac OS X smooth zooming animations, as well as the effects used when minimizing windows.

Re: RK Launcher vs RocketDock vs ObjectDock

ObjectDock is a dock similar to that in the Aqua GUI. It is distributed under the Object Desktop brand by Stardock for Windows 2000, 2003, XP and Vista, and comes in Free and Plus versions. ObjectDock allows the user to place shortcuts to any program in a "dock." This provides Windows users functionality similar to that of Mac OS X. The program comes in two versions, free, and a paid version offering more features. Both are available at their official website. ObjectDock can be used simply as a program launcher, or as a complete taskbar replacement. ObjectDock functionality can be enhanced with plugins such as weather, streaming news, and others.

Re: RK Launcher vs RocketDock vs ObjectDock

RocketDock is an application launcher made by Zachary Denton and Punk Labs for Windows that provides a dock similar to that of the Mac OS X Aqua GUI. It is freely available under a Creative Commons license and is distributed by Punk Labs that was previously called Punk Software. RocketDock is able to show live updates of minimized windows as in Mac OS X, and in Windows Vista it can show live thumbnail updates on the taskbar. It is compatible with MobyDock, ObjectDock, RK Launcher, and Y'z Dock skins, and is compatible with and borrows from Stardock ObjectDock's publicly published Docklet API. I use Rocket Dock as its very light and simple to use...
