What is your version of Windows Vista?
You are now under the influence of Windows Vista!
But in fact, what version do you have?

Windows Vista Starter

Windows Vista Starter was designed specifically to help more men, women, and children in developing technology markets learn valuable computer skills and reach new opportunities. With the goal of addressing digital divide challenges around the world, Windows Vista Starter is the most affordable edition in the Windows Vista line-up.

Windows Vista Home Basic

Windows Vista Home Basic is the edition of Windows for basic home computing needs. If you only want to use your PC for tasks like browsing the Internet, using email or viewing photos, then Windows Vista Home Basic may be the right edition for you. While it won't provide as many benefits as Windows Vista Home Premium, it will help you use your PC more easily and more safely than you could with Windows XP.

Windows Vista Home Premium

Windows Vista Home Premium is the edition that delivers more ease of use, security and entertainment to your PC at home and on the go

Here it is: The preferred edition of Windows for home desktop and mobile PCs. Windows Vista Home Premium delivers the productivity and entertainment that you need from your PC at home or on the go. It includes Windows Media Center, and that makes it easier to enjoy your digital photos, TV and movies, and music. Plus, you'll have the peace of mind of knowing that your PC has a whole new level of security and reliability. All together, Windows Vista Home Premium redefines enjoyment in home computing.

Windows Vista Business

If you own or run a small business, you'll want Windows Vista Business, the first Windows operating system designed specifically to meet your needs. With its powerful new security features, you can better protect the key information that your business depends on and that your customers trust you to keep confidential. Your employees can use its enhanced mobility technology to stay connected in and out of the office. They will find information more easily and collaborate better using this edition's new search and organization features. And you will spend less time on technology support issues with the advanced network management features in Windows Vista Business.

Windows Vista Enterprise

Windows Vista Enterprise is the premium edition of Windows Vista for businesses and is available exclusively to Microsoft Software Assurance customers. It helps global organizations and businesses that have complex IT infrastructures lower IT costs, reduce risk, and stay connected. Windows Vista Enterprise includes all the features in Windows Vista Business as well as extra capabilities designed to help reduce the cost and complexity of deploying and managing corporate computers. In addition, Windows Vista Enterprise provides easier application management, improved standardization for global operations, and higher levels of data protection for a growing, mobile workforce. With Windows Vista Enterprise, your employees can find information faster and use it better.

Windows Vista Ultimate

If you use the same computer at home and for your daily work, Windows Vista Ultimate is an excellent choice. You can smoothly shift between the things you want to do and the things you need to do. For fun, you'll love the extensive options you get for music, images, live and recorded TV, and online entertainment. For work, you'll find improved document sharing and networking support. If your PC is a laptop, you'll appreciate how easily you can manage and extend your battery life. And you'll get the most advanced, layered security protection of any Windows release yet.

Microsoft Windows Vistas Advantages
  1. Accelerate the upgrade path to new Desktop OS - legacy applications continue to run in a virtual environment with a previous OS version
  2. Simplify IT integration of new subsidiaries by running two IT environments concurrently—i.e. the corporate one and the acquired company's one
  3. Drive business continuity by rapid reconstitution of corporate desktops
  4. Speed user adoption of desktop virtualization by making Virtual PCs "invisible" to users
  5. Centrally create, manage and deploy virtual PC images throughout the enterprise
  6. Provision and control user policies according to business affiliation and requirements

Re: What is your version of Windows Vista

Many localized companies might be better off purchasing Business Edition for their main computers and Ultimate Edition for any mobile computers requiring hard drive encryption. The real problem is that the buyer would be paying for some unnecessary features that would not be wanted by business enterprise. Enterprise Edition is designed for companies which may encounter situations where they may need many computers with hard drive encryption. In other words, it's basically useless for the end user and there's no real point in having it.

Re: What is your version of Windows Vista

Windows Vista is essentially warmed-over Windows XP. If you're currently happy with Windows XP SP2, we see no compelling reason to upgrade. On the other hand, if you need a new computer right now, Windows Vista is stable enough for everyday use.

Enterprise is only available if you're part of Microsoft's Software Assurance program - you can't buy this version through any retail or OEM channels. It's basically the Business edition with a couple of added features such as multiple virtual licenses and some basic support for Unix applications.

I am using Vista Ultimate... but with dual boot with XP
