Want to overclock intel 2500K to 4.7ghz

Is it safe to overclock a new build with a brand new core i5 2500K processor? A week ago my friend and I together built a brand new computer and the peripherals which I have used are as follows:
    • Intel core i5 2500K
    • ASUS Sabertooth P67 motherboard
    • 8 GB Mushkin Blackline
    • BeQuiet Dark Power Pro P9 750W
    • Crucial 128GB SSD
    • WD 500 GB 7200RPM HDD
    • AMD HD 7970

I would like to overclock the processor which is currently at 4.2 GHz @ 1.210 vcore. I would like to reach at 4.7 GHz but does not want to adjust the Vcore. Is there any way of OC the processor without touching the Volts? Will it affect the CPU life?

Intel core i5 2500K made for overclockers and with its unlocked multiplier you can overclock it to 4.7 GHz easily by only adjusting the multiplier. You don’t need to tweak around the voltages since they are very sensitive in terms of clock speed and also for temps during the stress test. 4.7GHZ is a decent point for OCd processor. On the other hand the life of the processor is completely depends on the cooling setup. If you have a watercooling setup, you can push the processor up to the maximum limit. I think it will be 4.8GHz. You will get few degrees cooler as compared to air cooling. If you are not increasing the voltage, you will be fine with this clock speed.

I have read several forums where people are discussing about overclocking the 2500k processor but a strange thing is that everywhere I see different range results. There were different Vcore values and temps resulted for the same processor to gain 4.7GHZ. I have also tried to do the same with same processor and luckily I got it at 4.7 GHz (100x47) at 1.31V.

I think it is minimal and the LLC level was also 5. I ran the prime test for more than 5 hour and finally the processor started rising till 70C but didn’t actually cross it. I don’t know whether I am getting the accurate readings but it looks like processor is getting little hotter after a certain period of time. I don’t have a PC configuration like you but it is almost similar.

You should need a decent water cooling loop for the processor. Once you have it, you can set the multiplier at x45 and the BCLK to 100 MHZ. you will achieve what you always wanted. You can raise it a bit if you cannot get to 4.7GHZ. Start the stress test and run it as much as time you can till the temps start to reach highest. If it reaches very quickly, you will need to look at the Vcore voltages now.

In my case, I set it as Auto but then I decided to go up a bit. For 4.5GHz, I had to adjust the voltage to a bit. Typically you can leave the voltages to auto and change the BCLK as well as the Multiplier. If you want to go above 4.7 GHz, you will need to adjust the vcore to at least 1.4v. You should not hesitate to surpassing 1.4v by a little if the oveclocking is not succeeded. Sometimes it is possible for you to reach 5 GHz with 1.5v but never try without a watercooled loop.

It nice to see that at least someone able to boost up the processor. 4.7GHz would be fine for 2500K any condition. The threshold voltage is still below the 1.4V. I don’t think that you need to push above that. 1.4V is fine and I want to maintain the temps around 60C.
