Unable to overclock Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 on ASUS G31 P5KPL AM

well below mentioned is the computer configuration of mine.

Pentium dual Core E5200
ASUS G31 P5KPL AM/PS
800MHZ CORSAIR PC6400 5-5-5-15
Cooler master - tower type

Now I am trying to overclock the processor but I was not able to get beyond of 233Mhz FSB. I have also tried with minimum multiplier 6.0x with 240 FSB but no charm. Even I have tried with increasing the cpu voltage, Ram Volatge , Reducing RAM speeds but still I was not able to cross 233FSB. Any help will be appreciated.

After going through the problem of yours I am suggesting that motherboard which you are using might be limiting to get the need of yours. also you should try to overclock your RAM in order to get the improved performance.

I let you know that I am having above mentioned CPU and I have successfully overclocked to 3.32 GHz on ECS G31 chipset motherboard. According to me Asus motherboard enough better than that of I am having as it is using voltage control. From the BIOS Advanced Menu I set the Jumper Free Configuration to manual and CPU frequency to 266. I left all the RAM speed, timings and all the voltage settings to Auto. From the CPU Configuration I had disabled C1E and EIST. You should try the above mentioned steps before you try to overclock the RAM. There is no need of overclocking of RAM until and unless CPU overclcok seems to be stable.

Looking at the situation you should make a note of temperature at the time of idle and load. Overclock would fail if HSF is not seated appropriately.

Well in the situation of mine E5200 is running at 3.0 with having 1.225 vcore on Q9550 stock HSF. It is same as that of E5200 however it is having copper base. Currently I am using P5Q hence I cannot tell you much about the G31. However I tell you that crossing 200-260 mhz fsb did not seems to difficult on the chipset which you are having. So you should set the voltage on Auto.

As far as I had observed the temperature seems to be 38c irrespective of load or idle. As I am using best cooler. It is enough stable till 235Mhz and it can be achieved by the voltage settings and it should be made to auto. RAM speed set to 667 and Intel Speed Step is disabled and all the voltage settings are set to max. I am suspecting that motherboard which I am using is not allowing CPU to cross 235 Mhz. I am also having 945GC chipset so tell me whether it would be better overclocker than that of G31?

I don’t think so you are having any issue with motherboard itself. It is having support for 1333 so I could not get why you are not able to get 106. Do you have installed the latest version of BIOS on your motherboard? If your answer is no then I recommend that you should get the latest version of BIOS and install the same on your motherboard and see whether it is making any difference in the situation.
