Intel Core i5-2500K or i5-2550k for Overclocking

I am changing some of my old desktop components with the new one and one of them is the OC processor. I want to do this so that I can play the SWTOR with the max settings without any trouble. I am confused that which one will be better for me, Intel Core i5-2500K or i5-2550k. If you have some suggestion for me then please let me know that. I will be thankful for all the replies for this.

I would like to tell you that there is just one difference between the Intel Core i5-2500K and i5-2550k and that is 1ghz. If it would be the case with me then I would have bought Intel i5-2500k and with the saved money, I would have purchased a good CPU cooler and that is better option. So I would recommend you for the same.

I think that it will be better for you if you can select Intel Core i5-2550K. I am telling you this because there is no integrated graphics and because of that it will be possible to get the higher clock speed.

You will also have additional transistors on the chip, if we compare that with the 2500k and this is because 2500k is lacking the integrated graphics. I think that you are changing your PSU as well as video card. If there is no video card then it will be good for you to get the 2500k due to the incorporated graphics processor. Also, I want to tell you that the IGP will not play SWTOR at max.

In short, I want to tell you that, you should get the GPU, PSU, and a 2550k. For the CPU cooling, my recommendation to you is the corsair H80 or H60. This is one of the most important thing because you will be able to get more stable overclocking.

As far as I know that the 2550K is 100 MHz faster as compared to the 2500K and that is not having the IGPU and so there is not going to be any native graphics. If you are really getting this for gaming then the 2550K will be the best option for you and this is because, you will be making use of discrete GPU.

I just want to clarify one thing that the Intel 2550K is just having disabled graphics core but it is present there physically. It is believed that this will give us better clock. My thinking about this is that this is the method to clutch extra money from the customers. If you do not want complete maximum overclock then nit will be better for you if you can save $10.

re: Intel Core i5-2500K or i5-2550k for Overclocking

The Core i5 2550K has a clock speed of 3.4 GHz. This is more than the current 0.1 GHz Core i5 2500K and Intel calls due to the quad-core processor also $ 9 on average, although the difference in the average price is much higher yet. As previously announced, the i5 2550K no Intel HD 3000 graphics core, it is disabled. The i5 i5 2450P and 2380P, respectively have clock frequencies of 3.2 GHz and 3.1 GHz and also have 6 MB of L3 cache and a TDP of 95 watts.

Other than this I would like to give you some information regarding some other processors. The Celeron B815 has two cores with a clock frequency of 1.6 GHz and 2 MB of L3 cache. B720 has a single calculation of the core with a clock frequency of 1.7 GHz, and the cache memory with half to 1 MB. Finally there are the Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) processors, the Celeron 867 and the 797. The Celeron 867 has two cores, 2 MB of L3 cache and a clock frequency of 1.3 GHz. The calculation 797 has a core and a clock frequency of 1.4 GHz.

I have used the 2500K through its HD3000 incorporated graphics and played the SWTOR with the max settings. I put the shadows and AA off. I am playing this on 32" HDTV with a 768 resolution and I can say that this was running smooth with the best performance. But for that I overclocked the CPU to 405 and also the integrated graphic card to 1450.

It also depends on the monitor that you are using. If you are having the 1080 monitor there is no option for you other than to stuck with the low or medium settings?
