    AMD FX 6100 Overclocking

Right now I am studying a few overclocking guides and manuals for the intention of overclock my newly bought AMD FX 6100 processor. I already started and so far I have reached 4.5 GHz but it is not stable. The Windows boot perfectly but it fails during the Prime95 blend test. This is the first time I am overclocking an AMD processor. So any help is much appreciated.

In my case I actually need 1.4125 for 4.5GHz (8150.). You have to take a look at core temp while overclocking. When it get significantly over 70, at that time you will get to know why it is unstable. Try to give more voltage and see whether there any CPU errors or not. In order to get the low temps, you have to lower the voltages. You can do this by lowering CPUNB voltage and the NB multiplier. One thing you can try now is to tune up CPU without affecting memory by just running small FFTs. Once it get passed, you can go for large FFTs and then Blend.

Right now I am running my AMD FX8120@4.5GHz 1.30V and it is stable while playing games but it didn’t pass the Prime95 test on these settings but I don’t care about it as long as the system runs stable and everything works fine.

The FX 6100 is actually 3 cores + 3 "Logical" then six cores wholesale. Finally, it is officially 3 modules and 2 cores per module, but module is a core of reality. Nevertheless it's still an acceptable CPU, even if for the same price you would on the basis of the Phenom II x4 955BE and the Phenom II x6. The bulldozers have their benefits only overclocked very high.

    Re: AMD FX 6100 Overclocking

A new record was reached in the category of overclockers, which prompted an AMD FX-6100 up to a frequency of 7,170 MHz. The component that allowed him to push this processor up to a frequency of 7 GHz, have a MSI 990FXA-GD80 which allowed a bus frequency of 239 MHz, and raise the CPU multiplier to 30x and memory GSkill Eco DDR3 with standard heat sink, flow rates at a frequency of 1593 MHz with timing CL6-7-1T 6-21. In your case it seems to me that your motherboard does not able to handle the CPU overclock or not supporting overclocked FX. I think you had better go for a Phenom II X6 to perform better than a FX 8150.

In favor of FX is that they are easier to overclock, against the price, bad performance in multi-tasking and much worse in a single thread, and consumption under load. Another option that comes to mind is you just to hold the X3 until you can afford a process Intel, AMD or remove the second line of FX processor

    Re: AMD FX 6100 Overclocking

You should set the voltages in the bios manually, otherwise the board too much stress tends to give. As far as I know, the FX has an open Multiplier, which allows the clock increase without increasing the FSBs. This processor is designed to support high-frequency power, the AMD FX made about them in the field of overclocking. By adjusting the CPU Load Line Calibration at High, and adding via Offset to 0.16v voltage processor we could stabilize Prime95 a frequency of 4.6 GHz using a multiplier of x23
