Can BIOS XPOWER 1.6 lead to random Windows BSOD?
  

I have an Intel 990x on the MSI Big Bang Xpower board. It was flashed and updated to version 1.6. My setback is I get random BSOD and Windows Error exception service irq not less equal, or a memory management error. It's completely random. I have reinstalled several times and different installation disk, even thinking it might be used to install the files damaged. Also tested my memory with windows, I was failing prime95. I tested each memory card individually in prime95. Is there any other evidence out there that could find something? or a better way to show my memory really bad.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate
  • MSI Big Bang Xpower
  • Intel 990x
  • Corsair H50
  • KingWin 1000watt modular SLI PSU
  • Patriot Sector 5 Viper II PC 17000
  • OCZ Agility 2 SSD
  • EVGA GTX 560 ti
  • LG Bluray

In Windows, Startup and Recovery uncheck "Automatically restart". BSOD stop: error code will help with troubleshooting. As suspected, this is probably a configuration problem of RAM or RAM related. This is actually the wrong part of the forum as OC, but I think we can probably help establish RAM manually in BIOS.I recommend not using Live Update at all. Download the current MSI's website and install the update manually (s).

After performing steps that you have mentioned on your question you must have received the following results:
Under SPD tab your CPU will show-
  • SPD ext. XMP

  • 1067 Mhz

  • 1.650 V
Under memory tab-
  • 940.2 mhz
  • 2:10
  • 9.0
  • 11
  • 9
  • 29
  • 225
  • 1T
Under BIOS-
  • DRAM Voltage 1.65
  • DRAM Timing for all three channels 9-11-9-27
  • Adjusted DRAM Frequency 1880Mhz
  • Adjust Uncore Frequency 3384Mhz
  • QPI Full Speed
  • Adjust QPI Frequency 6768Mhz

In that I get better performance. I tried once to do it manually and could not get it to boot, links to some guides or maybe you can share the BIOS specifications and we have more or less a similar configuration. That would be ideal because I could try to copy a little by my own. I do not think it will go as high as your CPU MHZ until I get a zalman. Instead I compare my fluid swing.

Generally speaking, I would prefer saying yes. Manual settings in the BIOS of the IMO are much better. Run only 5.0 which are close to what is considered a "CPU everyday@1.376v golden eggs". Even with the same components selected, the results will differ from board to board. That is why it is difficult to treat and copy and use the exact configuration, since most of the time it works. I have noticed it especially in the higher settings. When ready to OC, open a new thread in the section of OC and under voltage.

I have got the following BIOS Green Power and it says:
  1. ICORE 11.61A
  2. I12V .625A
  3. VCORE 1.392 V
  4. V12V 12.190 V
  5. Pout 16.131 W
  6. Efficiency 211.579%
After that I verified the CR is 3 but the bios changed it says for channel 1-3 instead of individual channel. At the finish it said for channel 2 and 3 advance timing auto or manual, you can set round trip latency under manual. One was 58 while the other was 59. I have lest it to automatic.

My answer to your question is yes, I recommend Flash BIOS v1.4. I use the USB flash forum as a means only the safest way I know. Before flashing, make sure that all OC and everything returns to the / auto / default. After the flash, be sure to turn off, remove the PSU power cable, the battery for a while, Clear CMOS and then set it to default optimized and fine-tune the rest of the configuration. I am interested in hearing what the RAM by default.
