Overclocking on Intel i3 2100.

Hello guys I have recently ordered the i3 2100 for my gaming PC. I am really very excited to use it. This is my system configuration BIOSTAR TH67+, Intel i3 2100 @ 3.1ghz, ATI Radeon 5870, Kingston HyperX Blu 4 GB, Samsung 1 TB Spinpoint. But I have read that i3 2100 is locked down. So my question is that is there any way to over clock it? It’s not a big deal but still it will be good to squeeze some extra MHz from it.

Well I had the same query few days back I searched a lot about this topic on internet but there not enough information on the internet so I called computer engineer of my local area, and he told me that K chips 2500k and 2600k are able to overclocked. But all other current SB chips are stuck at their stock clocks. So dude I don’t think you will be able to squeeze out some MHz from the i3 2100.

Well I am not agree with the above user because I have done it on i3 2100 and I was able to overclock it about to 200-300MHz I did it on two different system. That’s why I am pretty much sure that you will be able to overclock it. But it would around 200-300MHz only you can’t overclock it more than that. Well congrats for your new build, and I hope you will be able to overclock it easily without facing any problem.

Well dude I think you had overclocked some other processor because I don’t think there is any possibility to overclock it except via little latitude the BCLK offers. The best thing you can do with that CPU is overclock the BCLK by about 5MHz. You are not able to overclock it because i3 CPU doesn’t have Turbo Boost feature and that’s why mostly all the multiplier are permanently locked to the stock. Others can be overclocked to the 400MHz.

Hello guys first of all thank you very much for taking concern on my query, I have posted this query on other websites also but there I hardly got any replies and the replies were all wrong because they were saying I am able to overclock it but guys here from your posts and the result I got from friends who are working in Intel is clearly no. so I will soon upgrade to 2500k, Anyways guys thanks a lot for helping me out.
