    Overclocking troubles MSI 870-G45

Hello, first of all, this being my first post here, let me introduce myself to the community, I'm Alice. And now, with my problem...

I just purchased and installed the following upgrades for my computer...

    • CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX4GX3M2A1600C9
    • MSI 870-G45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
    • AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX
    • PNY VCGGTS4501XPB GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

In the bio, it showed a running temperature of 37-42 degrees celcious, so I tried to overclock my CPU from 3.4 to 3.85. I restarted, and everything seemed to be running normally, better than normal actually... Then out of the blue, the entire system powered down, with the exception of a blinking blue light on the front of the tower.

Now, my thoughts are that it overheated and powered down as a safety failsafe to prevent the processor from liquifying. It is just overheating, how long does it take for the processor to be cool enough to allow it to turn back on?

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

    Thanks,

    -Alice

Well, there is a temp software to find out what is getting heated incase of overclocking, normally it would be the CPU itself, so check the readings and find it out accordingly. But firstly, you will need to remove all overclocks, and make sure the system is stable at stock settings. Once you have done that, then you can start playing around with settings, and find your new best settings for your overclock.

Yeah thats all well and good, but the problem is that I think that the over heating fried the board because it won't turn on at all. The processor is fine as I tested it in another machine. So I ordered a replacement, should be getting that tomorrow. Thanks for the advise though.

    Thank you,
